Opinion on Caprice with propane as fuel...at1212b 01-08-2005, 11:02 AM What do you guys think of a 88 caprice 8 cylinder, that uses propane as the fuel for $700? Thinking of purchasing one. Is this because it was used as a cab previously? Any pros or cons regarding this and possibly why this car is cheap? http://www.canadatrader.com/result/detailinfo.aspx?adID=3241710 is the link for the ad. Thanks! TommySS 01-08-2005, 02:49 PM Propane is cleaner, octane is higher (don't remember the number, but it's over 100). It's not cheap, and unless you have a pretty big tank, you'll be gasing up a lot. Just my .02 at1212b 01-08-2005, 08:51 PM I guess that's why its cheaper because of the increased gas costs. Though I was reading because of the cleaner fuel, the engine can last longer. Any ideas on the cost of converting it back to a gasoline engine? TommySS 01-12-2005, 07:46 PM Wow - this is straight propane? That's cool ! All you need to do is obtain a gas tank, fuel pump, and carburetor, and plumb new lines. Since the range is not great, a lot of propane cars already come with gasoline provision. at1212b 01-13-2005, 07:59 PM Any ideas of the advantages/disadvantages for this type of car/engine? Don't plan to do much driving. Just on the weekends. TommySS 01-13-2005, 08:03 PM Any ideas of the advantages/disadvantages for this type of car/engine? Don't plan to do much driving. Just on the weekends. Range and fuel availability are limited, but that's about all. Michel73 01-18-2005, 12:00 PM My caprice drives on propane also, no problems at all. I don't know about canada but in europe propane is about 4 times cheaper then regular gas. If you would like pictures of my propane tank just look at my gallery.
