1991 Legacy doesn't move anymoreOldCar1991 01-07-2005, 04:10 PM I just got this car as gift one month ago. The mileage is only about 130,000. It ran well for the first month. Last night, when the speed slow down to 30 miles or below, the steering wheel started to shake badly. This morning, I started the car with no problem. I pulled to ‘r’, and stepped on the gas slowly as I always do. I hear some noise and felt like my back bumper was hitting on something, the car stopped. The engine was still on, but the car did not move in either backward or forward by stepping on the gas. I had to get help from the neighbor to pull the car back to the parking spot. Any idea on what happened to this car? I would really appreciate any comments and suggestions. I read through this great forum and expect to run this car for another 50,000 miles. SabreKhan 01-07-2005, 05:04 PM The steering wheel shaking: if that was under braking, it's probably just a warped rotor. If it was under throttle or at a roll or an all-the-time under 30mph thing, there are many possibilities, none of which are good. The scraping and the stopping: seized differential or some other gear in the drive train. I'm assuming you have the AWD version since the sound came from the back. My best guess would be a broken rear differential, since that's really one of the only moving parts back there that could cause that. That *may* also be the cause of your steering wheel wobble, but I would highly doubt it. The bad news: the cost for labor on this is probably going to be expensive. The good news: if you want to look for used parts, junkyards have lots of Legacies where you live. OldCar1991 01-11-2005, 12:15 PM Sounds like I have to tow my car to a garage to find out what is it. This is not the work I can deal with. Thank you very much for the hint! vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
