Towing 8000lbs vs. aftermarket exhaustNickF829 01-06-2005, 11:36 PM good or bad? im gonna be towing my show truck all over the place, and was wondering what effect an open exhaust have on towing... everywhere i see is 3" exhaust, i'd replace header, cat and back to get that wide open sound and hopefully increase MPG and help in towing any help appreciated... hows exhaust effect towing NICK Eggert 01-09-2005, 11:00 PM Nick, I just put my experience in your other thread about the exhaust. http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=343382 The wide open sound will drive you bonkers after the first two hours. What is your engine, rear end, tow rating? My 6 liter K2500 with the 4.10 rear is OK for 8,000lbs, 10,000lbs is kind of OK if you don't mind 4,000 RPM in second gear at 50mph on hills. Take care, Eggert :bananasmi Harbinger225 11-01-2005, 03:54 PM Get TOG Headers!! http://performance-exhaust-headers.com/chevrolet/ More torque for towing = good stuff WEF 11-01-2005, 05:33 PM I towed a 6500# skidloader on a 1800# trailer with a 5.3 '99 GMC. I put on dual Flowmaster and it did slightly help MPG but KILLED low end torque and it wasn't my imagination. The truck had 3.73's. I now tow it with a 5.3 '05 Yukon, 4.11's, stock exhaust that gets better mpg than the '99 and will tow circles around the '99. I don't care what GM rates that truck to tow, 8300# is too much and I only do it when the 2500 6.0 isn't available. I believe the 4.11's to be the big factor here but I'm not about to add a free flow exhaust system to this truck no matter how good it will sound. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
