A 17 year old girl driving a regal??????Mz_JFrank 01-06-2005, 02:40 AM I was (and still am) interested in buying a buick regal (1984-1987) for my first car (Yea i am a 17 year old girl). Recently i found a '84 buick regal for sale for $1300.00. i fell in love with the car. The car was beautiful on the outside. It was all black with no Dents or scratches with a white ragtop, a sunroof, and dual pipes and white interior. But it need some work. It needed a passenger door panel, a headliner and a metal piece to go around the ragtop and that was all. Well My stepdad was putting up the money for my first car . He said that he doesn't think the car is worth $1300.00 because it needed so much work. He also said that i don't need a buick regal because he thinks that "BOYS" will try and steal it. Everyone else also said that i don't need a regal because girls don't drive "them kind of cars". My question being, in your opinion do you think that regal was worth 1300.00 and Is there anything wrong with a 17 year old girl having a buick regal, which is my dream car, for her first car?????????? public 01-06-2005, 07:04 PM First. A 17 year old girl will soon be making her own decisions about most things in life. Everyone better get used to it! If YOU want a Regal, then that is exactly what YOU should strive for. Second. The parts needed are cheap at a junk yard. Third. Most any car that runs well is worth $1300. Most of us grown men have a lot of toys (boats, bikes, motorcycles,etc...) that cost a lot more than $1300. Finally. Remember it is his money, so go easy on him. If you can get a job $1300 is not that much to save up on your own. Good Luck. tman 01-06-2005, 07:48 PM GET THE REGAL!!!!!! I'm a 17 year old dude from North Carolina, and in a high school where everyone has eclipses, hondas, and beat up trucks, I drive a 94 park ave. I love driving it, and I hope you love your regal. Old Lar 01-06-2005, 11:12 PM an 84 Regal is 20 years old. Lots of years on the car which could mean lots of repairs in its future. Remember the golden rule. "Them that gots the gold, makes the rules" Your step dads gold. AZeline 01-08-2005, 09:04 AM Should a 17 YO girl have a Buick? Why the heck not?????? A girl (just like a guy) can drive what ever they can afford! Whether it's a Buick, a Corvette, or a Cabrio. Now while the person with the money does have the right to make a final protest (it's his money afterall) if he is allowing you to choose, you should be trusted to make the right decision once you have the right information, and people have to understand the whole "guys s/b in this but, girls should drive that" thing is "so not-cool". Besides, "Boys" try and steal Hondas and Explorers. Why would they steal a "grandpa" Buick? I'm a 35yo koot so I think of 17 as still being a kid, but close enough to being an adult to be able to make some reasonable decisions. Do a search for cars around $1300 and see what you get and compare. If you find similar cars for sale, he can't use that against you. Now comes your first lesson in haggeling! Remind him this will be a valuable lesson for your young mind. It will teach you important skills in the marketplace. ;) :p As far as this Buick is concerned, if it runs good, has reasonably low miles (~13Kmiles/yr is the average in the US so if it's under 200K that's not bad) and seem to drive good, $1300 may be about right. Of coarse at 200K miles, it would be better if it had a recently rebuilt engiine and tranny. prsnroftime 01-17-2005, 03:55 PM hey im a 17 year old guy drivin a regal, and its pretty damn hot watchin a girl drive my car. i say go for it! mikec041 01-20-2005, 08:06 PM I've never seen a ragtop with a sunroof How does that work? public 01-20-2005, 09:40 PM I've never seen a ragtop with a sunroof How does that work? However, I'm going to offer you some advice based upon experience with old cars and Buicks. Unless you have the time , ability, and money to maintain your car, think hard about buying a car that old, especially a Buick. From experience, I can tell you that Regals are not easy to work on. Responsibility comes with owning a car, both moral and financial. I own two Buicks (96 Regal Custom and 94 Park Avenue) and four Hondas (two Accords and two Civics) of all ages. I have more trouble with the two Buicks than with all the Hondas put together, and I can promise you that on a 21 year old Regal, you're going to have a LOT of maintenance to do. Heck, in only four more years, that car will be an antique!! For $1,300 there are a lot of cars you can obtain that are newer and made better; I would at least check it out. BNaylor 06-19-2005, 11:51 AM I don't know of anyone personally under 40 y.o. that owns or drives a Buick let alone a Regal....lol. :lol2: 90BuickLimited 07-07-2005, 07:34 AM I don't know of anyone personally under 40 y.o. that owns or drives a Buick let alone a Regal....lol. :lol2: I'm 35, buddy. Just think in 5 years you'll be forty....lol. :lol2: BTW - I don't know you personally. tman 07-07-2005, 01:08 PM I don't know of anyone personally under 40 y.o. that owns or drives a Buick let alone a Regal....lol. :lol2: I'm 17 and I drive a Park Avenue. My 24 year old cousin has a regal. I intend to buy another Park Avenue when Mine dies. Buicks aren't for old critters, they are for people who appreciate quality and design, as well as a smooth ride. THe ultra folks appreciate performance too. BNaylor 07-07-2005, 02:16 PM I'm 17 and I drive a Park Avenue. My 24 year old cousin has a regal. I intend to buy another Park Avenue when Mine dies. You don't hear me complaining about owning a Buick. Got two of them but old farts like me owning and driving one are the norm, the younger ones are the exception but its good to see others have good taste. :lol2: Dfisher40 07-27-2005, 01:04 PM All, A Regal is just like a Cutlass or Grand Prix for those years of production. The Factory sun roof and Landue (ragtop) means this Regal is loaded. It will have power seats and climate control options as well. There are still some questions to be asked: 1. Not if a 17 year old girl should own it but, who owns it now? I hope not a 17 year old boy, because that means it's ragged. 2. How many miles? 3. Does it leak or burn oil? 4. Are the coils shot? Does it sit low to the ground? Does it squeak while driving down the raod? 5. Does the sunroof work and/or does it leak? The replacement seal was over $200 in 1988. It may not even be available today. My brother just glued his shut. I would need to see a pic to determine value. In general, don't pay over a $1000. But if dad is paying, who cares? What size is the motor? Dave My Way is the Highway Green Fairy 08-09-2005, 01:14 PM Buy it! I'm 18 and I drive a 1993 Buick Regal Custom. It's a great car. I was in an accedent and it bent my hood out of shape, but the front end was so long that the only that happened was three broken motor mounts! It's reliable, and easy to drive. Okay maybe too easy, but its still a great car. I wouldn't trade it in for ANYTHING! I'll drive it until the poor thing can't go anymore. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
