91 Geo tracker - intermittant starting problem

My 91 tracker has 360K+ miles has been completely trouble free up until NOW!!!

Here is the deal...
It will start when cold and run forever, but after it is good and warm, if you turn it off, you will be stuck there for a couple of hours until it is cold again before it will state again.

The motor cranks fine, but there is no sign of life. If you leave it alone for a long time, it will fire up like the day I bought it.

Is there a sensor that could be boogered up that would prevent a warm-start?

Thanks in advance
ben

try this...i have seen on several occasions where the car will not start because the pick up coil or ignition coil in the distributor is heat soaked and willl not start untill cooled down. the next time it dies and you cannot start it see if it is getting fire. the trackers were known for having distributor problemd. also i would check the crank sensor which controls the igniton. you can ck it fairly simply with an ohm meter.

have you ever had the ECM repaired?

i have not had the joy of having to repair 1. I know it seems everyone has a problem with the ecm but before you just pull it and repair it or even try to bypass it see if you are getting fire...you can perform pinpoint test to ck the ecm for volt reference and other things before just replacing or repairing it. did u ck for fire???

Gents,
I appreciate your responses.

Having just moved, I have been without the internet for a few weeks.

I will check for these this weekend and get back.

many thanks for the direction.

I know you probably thought this was a dead link, but here is the answer to my problem...

BAD FUEL INJECTOR.

After testing the fuel injector's resistance with an ohm meter, I found it was WAY out of spec.

I purchased an rebuilt one from some internet site... I think I paid 50 bucks and the thing runs like a champ. It was a real easy install too... Just be careful not to drop a couple of screws down the throttle body (I stuffed paper towels down each side the the injector to block all possibility of doing something stupid).

So my lesson here is... If it will start when cold, and run nearly forever, but the not want to start until completely cold again, I would test the fuel injector.

Man I hope this helps someone else, cuz it about cost me my sanity!!
