I have a 93 ranger, 4-cyl, 5 speed, with 216,000 miles on it. I was driving to work and I lost power in my engine. I could only go about 35 mph and everytime I gave it gas, it wanted to choke out and quit. After about 2 miles, it finally quit and could not be restarted. I was told, from the service dept. of a dealership, that my timing belt probably slipped and finally broke. It will cost $250 to repair. I'm just wondering if this sounds like the symptoms of a broken timing belt and the cost to fix it? I'm sure that after 216,000 miles, something like this is really likely to happen.

This sounds about right, altho they dont usually slip then break unless it has been over heated. that would cause a belt to slip. Timing belts are good for about 60,000 mi. Price is about 180.00 to 240.00 depending on the mechanic
