Cassette is stuck in radio

The tape cassette won't eject from my 97 LeSabre radio. When I push the eject button I hear a noise like it wants to rewind or something and then I get an E13 error on the radio display. The radio plays like there wasn't a cassette in it. Any ideas on how to get it ejected?

Same thing happened to me a couple of years ago. Used a thin flat bladed screwdriver to gently force the cassette out several times. I did this while pushing the 'eject' button. Instead of fixing the radio (didn't know how to do it right) I went to E-Bay and got one used for $22 including shipping. This was a radio/cassette and didn't have the CD player. Those basic radios show up every week, and on some of them the bidding starts at $5 or so. Some are over priced to start with and in no better condition than the ones ending for $15. If you ask the Buick dealer how much to fix the radio you might get quite a shock.

My favorite trick for removing a stuck cassette is C4. It has never failed to take care of the problem.

I had the same problem on my '98 Lesabre. I was able to remove the cassette by hooking it with a piece of wire with a small hook on the end. But the mechanism is still in the same position and the radio display says "Tape In". And that is the way it is going to stay.............

I haven't worked on a newer Delco radio yet (on mine the tape eject isn't motorized), but I did work on a Chrysler radio/tape deck that was showing the same symptoms. Problem was that the belt in the radio had come off of its wheels & guides, and the motor in there would just spin when it tried to eject. Putting the belt back on isn't hard but to route it correctly, you do have to know which direction the wheels should be turning...
