1990 jeep cherokee won't startJohnk_56 01-01-2005, 04:01 PM The engine turns over strong but it won't start. I have replaced the distributor car, rotor and fuel filter. I don't know if it is the fuel pump or not. Does anyone know where the fuse the fuel pump is located? Is there a relay for this also? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks dksob81 01-01-2005, 07:03 PM have you checked to c if u have spark when cranking the engine. pull one of the wires off of a plug and hold close to a bolt and crank the engine, look for spark. NOTE: do not hold hand to close to the boot. NOTE: do not hold hand to close to the boot. Yes, the spark appears to be weak. The engine just turns over but won't start. dksob81 01-11-2005, 02:00 PM well since you have spark < weak spark but spark none the less, check to c if you have fuel (turn the key to the on position and wait like 10 seconds then push in on the Shrader valve on the fuel rail, you should get soem fuel, then do it again turn key on for 10 seconds and push scrader valve pin in again. Thanks but I am not familiar with where the Shrader valve is. Can you describe it to me and where it is? Thanks dksob81 01-14-2005, 03:45 PM Pressure Check Valve (Shrader valve), look kinda like the tire stem on our jeep (to check tire pressure), on 4.0L engines I think it is located right in front of the Throttle body, right behind the #2 cylinder (spark plug), Dale Aeppli 01-14-2005, 03:45 PM Thanks but I am not familiar with where the Shrader valve is. OR THROTTLEBODY CLEANER TRY TO START DALE 89ltd 01-14-2005, 03:52 PM a quick test to see if it is a fuel problem, Buy a can of quick start spray and spray it in the throttle body. Remove the air filter cover and spray the quick start in the 3" tube leading to the throttle body while some one else turns it over. If you are by yourself, spray it in for about 5 seconds then quickly try to start it. If it tries to start, then you know its the fuel pump relay, or pump, or the fusable link leading from the starter relay to the fuel pump relay. There is also a white ceramic resistor ( about 3" long) about middle of the driver's side fender at the top. It has two wires to it, and is there to make the electric fuel pump quiet, it does nothing else. Most people , including 89, unplug the two wires and hook them together and bypass the resistor completely, they fail all the time. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
