I have a 97 Olds Cutlass 3.1 ltr. Had the heads and the intake milled, installed all new gaskets and head bolts. Complete assembly, no start, no spark, but smell gas. Tried another coil pack and control module, no spark. Checked fuses under the hood, ok. Are there any fuse panels inside the vehicle? I'm ASE Certified, been working on cars for 25 years, stumped by this one. I have a small garage, not alot of diagnostic equipment. The car did start when I got it, it had the ever popular blown intake gaskets, warped intake 7 thousandth, heads warped 6 thousandth. Any help?? I also have a good knowledge of VW's.

I'm no expert but have worked on these some and I had a similar problem after changing intake gaskets/heads - Check to see if oil pressure sensor was damaged or unplugged during repair (easily done). Circuit is interconnected and will prevent starting. Good Luck.

Yeah the oil pressure sensor will trip your fuel pump. Also check your under hood fuel pump fuse (regular 15 amp fuse same as in glove box but under hood somewhere) Dont know why you smell gas though if the fp is not powered.....

Check the CKPS (Crankshaft Position Sensor) to make sure it is not damaged and trace the CKPS wire to the ICM (Ignition Control Module). If the CKPS wire is nicked and rubbing at the engine block metal surface then the CKPS is grounded and no signal reference and so no spark from the spark plugs.
