97 C1500 Dome Lights Stay On catzr580 12-31-2004, 07:50 AM
I've seen several threads on dome light issues, but none seem to answer my question. My dome light stays on all the time (unless I pull the fuse). I've replaced one if the door switches and the headlight (dome override) switch, it still won't turn off. I believe the other door switch is working (the buzzer buzzes when the door is open, not when it's closed). My PMirrors also aren't working even with the fuse in place (also replaced the switch here as well). Could there be a grounding issue? Jeremy-WI 12-31-2004, 02:16 PM Power mirrors are on a power accessory fuse or circuit breaker usually, dome lights are usually on crtsy fuse. If the dome light doesn't go off with the dome override set, you probably have a problem with the dome light module(called something else, don't remember) skipr 12-31-2004, 09:48 PM It's called the "interior lighting control module" and the power mirriors do tie into it for some reason. The dome, reading lamps, door jam switches, and the mirrors all share a grounding point and use Fuse 4 (IP fuse compartment) catzr580 12-31-2004, 10:33 PM By the IP Fuse box I assume you mean the underhood box? I appologize for the dumb question, just want to be sure. I know both fuctions share #3 in the cab fuse box. I also did a little more troubleshooting this afternoon. I removed the door switch on the drivers side (the one I didn't replace) and found that the wire for the dome light was already at ground so I'm assuming there must be a short somewhere in the cab. But thats why the dome is on all the time (I'm thinking anyway), I just need to find out where it's grounded. But that still doesn't lean toward my theory of both the power mirrors and the dome light being the same issue. I HATE ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS! big_blue_chevy2006 01-01-2005, 03:58 PM maybe its just a short in the wire? i have a 90 c1500 and i have a short in my wire and it stays on all the time rarely turns off, i just took out the bulb and i dont really worry about it but it may not be a short just a suggestion. skipr 01-01-2005, 05:42 PM By the IP Fuse box I assume you mean the underhood box? IP (interior panel) and you are right they use fuse 3 (not 4 my mistake) BobM46128 01-01-2005, 07:29 PM I'm sure that you are aware that the dome light is always powered? That means that the switches simply ground the light, not power it. If you have a bare wire, it will cause this condition and not cause the fuse to pop as in the old trucks.
