98 ram 1500 stalling & abs/brakelight issuesscaerme 12-30-2004, 06:14 PM I have a 98 dodge ram 1500 with 107k miles with 2 problems, the ABS & brakelight has been on constantly for a while now. Brakes already fixed, no issue, just need to know how to reset the lights. Second problem is as of the last 2 weeks, it has stalled while driving. It will restart no problem and we thought it was bad gas, but now we are wondering if it is a fuel filter/pump problem. This time it was after the gas was run way low and the fuel light was on. Where is the fuel filter on this vehicle? Last time it stalled, we just put some HEET in it and it seemed OK for several weeks. We are trying to sell this thing right now, and of course it starts with these problems, so any help is appreciated. BleedDodge 12-30-2004, 06:58 PM Fuel filter is in the tank. scaerme 12-30-2004, 10:14 PM Thanks, anyone have suggestions on the abs/brakelight always on or the stalling problem? petrie 01-03-2005, 12:06 AM i also have this problem and am going to replace the speed sensor on top of the rear differential, most of the other message boards dealing with dodges have corrected this problem with this sensor replacement. My ram also stalls (eng. just dies)while i am coming to a stop kind of fast. im hoping this sensor has somthing to do with it as it controls alot of things ,even speedometer/odometer. petrie 01-03-2005, 12:09 AM I think you can disconnect a battery cable for a few seconds ,reconnect it and see if that works to reset your lights. scoutinkeith 01-03-2005, 09:20 AM for the speed sensor, you can try resetting the computer(disconect the battery). if the lights still come on after the reset, you can try cleaning the sensor, just pull it from the dif, clean it, and reinstal. after cleaning, you'll need to reset the computer again. if cleaning dosn't work, then most likely the sensor will need replaced. as far as the stalling, as mentioned, it could be a dirty fuel filter(filter is in the tank with the pump) or it could be a dirty IAC, which can be cleaned with TB/carb cleaner. if you remove the IAC to clean it, be careful not to push or twist the plunger as doing that may damage the actuator. good luck, Keith MoparMurphy 01-05-2005, 10:25 AM I would reset the computer. My '94 would stall exactly the same way especially if I ran it a long distance. I would reset the thing at the beginnigng of winter and summer. I also lived in North Dakota where temp extremes are about 150 degrees between the 2 seasons. It would seem to do it more during major weather fluctuations. I would do that and never have a problem throughuot the year. I found it to be good maintenance throughout the year. She always purred like a kitten after that. Make sure you reset it at dead cold and let it sit for about 20 minutes to allow the computer to purge and reconnect and restart. Let idle until it gets to operating temp and the drive it. This recalibrates the computer's parameters to all the sensors readings to include youe speed sensor. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
