Ok I have read probably ever transmission message on here.

My transmission has been doing the same thing as a lot of peoples, poor shifting times, wont go to overdrive(on a regular basis, sometimes will). But now it has done something very strange, it wont engage into reverse. Forward gears still engage.

For the life of me I can't figure out why. The shifter in the steering column is reads off a little, but I figure the problem for that is in the steering column.

Any advise on the transmission problem would be great, I wish I read these forums before I bought the SUV 2 months ago :-(

First check the fluid level when the truck is warm and on a level surface. When was it changed last? Also the vacuum modulators go in the 1st gen explorers and cause the trans fluid to disappear. How many miles on the explorer? Could be any number of things. Good Luck
