1990 Sierra Gear Problemlionelkirk2004 12-30-2004, 01:20 PM I was looking at this 1990 Sierra And The truck is really nice, but it won't slip into gear. What could be wrong? What can I do to get it in Gear? leeder70 01-04-2005, 12:25 AM gear???? is it a standard??? or are you talking about the 4 wheel drive????? lionelkirk2004 01-04-2005, 12:39 AM No, The transmission won't slip into gear. It's a automatic transmission. leeder70 01-04-2005, 12:42 AM is the lever stuck???? or when you pull the lever in gear it just dont do anything????? lionelkirk2004 01-04-2005, 12:44 AM when you pull the lever into gear it just won't do anything. leeder70 01-04-2005, 12:54 AM tranny no good. if you are getting it for a song ( dirt cheap) then you can afford to put alittle money into it. but i wouldnt buy it unless it was cheap cheap. no telling what could be out of the tranny. the pump, clutches , bands could be anything. lionelkirk2004 01-04-2005, 12:58 AM They are asking 1900, should I go lower? If so how much lower? What is the estimated cost of a new transmission? leeder70 01-04-2005, 01:07 AM for around hear i can get a tranny if i can find one at the salvage yard for about 5 to 6 hundred in good shape. but thats here (missouri). to rebuild is around 12 to 15 hundred. 19 isnt to bad. might try alittle lower. whats the mileage on the truck????? everything else seem to work ok???? is the motor in good shape????? no smoke no knocks coming from the motor is there???? lionelkirk2004 01-04-2005, 01:27 AM The motor and everything is in great shape. It has about 220,000 miles on it. Should I just get the transmission rebuilt? leeder70 01-04-2005, 01:34 AM if you can find a good quality place ask around people you know and get a good mechanic and that would be the way to go have it rebuilt. you can get a good used one but you never know what you are getting. i would try and get them down to 15 hundred if you can. as long as you can get the tranny rebuilt for the same price as around here you wont be in bad shape lionelkirk2004 01-04-2005, 01:36 AM Thanks. leeder70 01-04-2005, 01:39 AM no problem man good luck vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
