No first gear when 15 degrees or colder

I have a 97 lesabre that I've owned for around 3 to 4 months. The transmission has been shifting great until it got cold. (around 15 degrees).
This morning (and other mornings) the tranny does not start out in 1st. I believe the tranny is in 2nd even when I put the slector into 1st. When driving and I put the selector into 2nd I do not get an upshift. Selector into 3rd I get an upshift. This morning the tranny did not down shift after a 23 mile drive. I had to manual down shift to move in the parking lot at work. I don't believe I got over drive to engage.
After work, (weather much warmer say 20 or more) the tranny shifted very well. I got all of the gears even over drive.
Okay guys.... whats up with this thing? The fluid is full and looks fairly clean. What would be tempature senative? I have not gotten a "check engine/tranny" lite. I've read about these trannies (4T60E) requiring an upgrade to the valve body. Any one out there with any experience with this?
This car is in excelant shape. I would like the trans to shift like it should.
Thanks for your input.

It may be that the weather is too cold for the fluid to properly work, you should get fluid that has a lower recommended temperature.
Also, overdrive is shut off until engine temps reach~130 degrees

A little update on the tranny shifting problem.
This morning (5 degrees) the tranny shifted fine. I don't think it's the tranny fluid. ??
On the over drive... the engine was up to temp and I still did not get overdrive when the tranny was acting up.
Any thoughts?
