1992 camry won't stay running fergmonster 12-28-2004, 08:56 AM
my brother in laws camry dies occasionally when he is driving it. It seems to me to be a fuel problem, because he can keep it running by pressing on the gas, but if he lets off it dies. If you let the car sit for a while, it will crank right back up and run like a dream..... any help? jsinton 12-28-2004, 12:32 PM I'll bet your EGR valve is clogged. If it starts good, runs ok going down the highway, but at a light it runs like poo-poo and wants to cut out then that's the EGR. To check: Get a common hammer, locate the EGR, make it run bad, rap the EGR with the hammer (don't break it). You should be able to get the valve to unstick and it will idle like magic! Clean out the EGR with a coat hanger and carb cleaner or replace. Probably an air filter, and O2 sensor, and a tune up wouldn't hurt either. fergmonster 04-04-2005, 06:43 PM just an update: this car ran for a few months after cleaning egr valve. Now its running like Poo-Poo at stops AGAIN! i ordered an EGR valve today. should be here in a few days. The diagnostics gives me a MAP sensor code (31) but thats not it. I did the voltmeter check on the map sensor. checked out good. Thank god because its over 300 dollars!!! toughsticks87 04-06-2005, 08:19 AM EGR went on my camry, after highway driving car would want to stall then eventually ran great. mine was so clogged with crap i just had to get a new one fergmonster 04-06-2005, 08:23 AM if anybody needs a new throttle body, email me. i have one w/ IAC, and TPS sensors on it. really clean too!, since i thought it could be the problem. but it wasn't.
