Damn shame what Mitsubishi has done with the new Eclipse. For what it is, it's a very nice car. But it's such a far cry from all the Eclipse came to represent that it's a travesty that it wears the same name.

Devoted to Honda as I may be, I can't help but love the Eclipses (and Talons) of old.

I think that Mitsu messed up by dropping the AWD and the turbo engine in the 3g eclipse. The reason that Mitsu changed the styling was to appeal to the older generation going through their mid-life crises. I read somewhere that there were already bolt-on turbos for the 3g eclipse. I don't remember where though. I think that the 2nd gen. eclipses were the best looking, and the GSX was awesome.

mitsu had to drop the turbo model because of poor sales, the turbo eclipses made up less than 10% of eclipse sales.. the 3g v6 gt sells much better...bigger engines always appeal to the masses..

Bigger engines appeal to stupid rednecks. High revving turbo is the way to go.

That is why if you want a nice car with a turbo.. buy the nice car, and bolt on a turbo. ;)

Its easier to buy a car with a turbo cause all the internals are already setup for it.. then its just a matter of fine tuning.. The Turbo eclipse has a great platform to build on and can easily get into the low 13's or even 12's on stock internals.. Thats pretty sweet..

FWIW, A winner at the BR shootout last year has a 10 second timeslip. His bottem end is stock except for removing the balance shafts. 500whp, and seeing these numbers on stock 6 bolts is not rare.

I agree, that guy won't let go of the idea about swapping engines. I read his other posts and there all that way.
