O2 sensors..what the? gbrad64 12-25-2004, 01:07 PM
OK heres the deal... i have a '96 with 2.2l.... it has three o2 sensors! i know what o2 sensor look like .... theres one in the manifold ..one in the cat...and one just behind the cat... i havent traced them to see where they go yet..it raining out and i dont have a grage.... but i cant find any thing in my manuels that suggest how many im suposed to have and where they need to be.... if some one could tell me?.. thank you.... im trying to knock it down to one sensor in the manifold... thanks again godenm 12-25-2004, 09:29 PM its supposed to have 2. ive never seen more than 2. obd2 has 2 sensors & obd1 has 1 Bronco2 12-25-2004, 10:48 PM You have 3 O2 sensors because the one in the exhaust manifold monitors the exhaust, the sensors before and after the cat. conv. monitor the effiency (I don't think I spelled that right) of the Cat. Have the car scanned, it will give a fail code of which sensor set the code. In your case, sensor 1 bank 1 would be nearest the engine, sensor 2 would be before the Cat., 3 after the Cat. Keep in mind that a code gives you the problem the system is in,not just the part to replace. Classicrocjunkie 12-26-2004, 12:20 AM hmm... somthing is fishy here... I've always known them to have 2... godenm 12-26-2004, 09:19 PM yeah, both of my cavi's have 2.1 in the manifold and 1 behind the cat Classicrocjunkie 12-26-2004, 11:14 PM I have 2 myself..exhaust manifold, after cat ( 99) my girl's 96 has (2)...same place as mine... wow i love ppl who don't know what they are talking about. gbrad64 12-27-2004, 06:25 PM OK thank you all.... my father has a GM interface so I'll check that... I just might build a O2 simulator and get rid of these ...... happy newyear Bronco2 12-27-2004, 09:06 PM Classic-I was answering a generic question on OBD 2 cars. For all I know,it may be a Cal. spec car. I also noticed that there was no help with the the problem, just cracking on how many O2 sensors this car has.Excuse me for posting a little advice.
