Take a look at the linkage undernieth for a bind. Possible branch or debre lodged in the linkage. You say you do some 4 wheeling off road so I kind of suspect that.

Try 4lo while rolling about 5mph.

ok obvious but sometimes forgotten, did u put the transmission in NEUTRAL before trying to put into 4LO

Come to a complete stop, place tranny in NUETRAL, then pull the TC shifter straight back to 4LO w/out stopping in NUETRAL.

ok that makes scence now. ill try that when i go out tomarrow. i think i was playing it on the safeside and just did not try neutral. this is the first jeep ive had and love it except for that. i heard that putting it in 4hi or lo on the road will screw it up. i put it in only if it rains hard and when i need extra traction to get up dirt driveways. is this good? will it not hurt it? the directions on the driver side viser. it says use it for wet or loose roads but im just making sure. sorry if it sounds dumb im really new to the suv scene. this is the first 4x4 ive ever had and i love it. thanks guys for all your help

well it is good to use it for wet loose dirt, but it is mainly intended for while towing on wet/loose dirt/mud. You can leave it in 4HI while driving on mud, but if you are towing a heavy trailer or boat and are driving in mud and need the extra traction - this is when 4LO is needed.
