99 JGC Laredo - Check Engine -- reset how?

Today my 4.0L had a difficult time starting (cranked maybe 4-5 seconds) and ran real rough.

The Check Engine light remained flashing and the engine would not rev past 2500-3000 RPM. In the process still ran very rough, like it was not firing in all cylinders.

Drove the kids to the school bus and back. Stopped an restarted the engine and the flasing Check Engine light was off. The engine was now running smooth as before this trouble. After driving for a minute or so, the Check Engine light came on and stayed on.

I suspect the problem came from my fuel as I put a fuel injector cleaner in the tank at fill up last night.

The code on the odometer reads: P 0301 ... done.

Can anyone give me some info on this and resetting/clearing the code as well?

Thank you.

P0301 - Misfire detected in the #1 cylinder.

this could be caused by lack of fuel/air and/or spark to the #1 cylinder.

you can try disconnecting the Negative battery cable for about a minutes, this might clear the code.
but I think you may need to take it and have it cleared by a scan tool (dealer or autozone). ussually it will clear it-self when the problem is fixed.

does the problem with the roughness still exist?

Thanx for the code definition. I also just found the code definitions at this address: http://www.wjjeeps.com/faultcodes.htm

The roughness went away and it now runs fine -- just the nuisance Check Engine light staying on.

My belief is the fuel injector cleaner was nort well mixed in the gas (it is quite cold here) and residue may have been left on the spark plugs, as well the cranking only made it worse. Hence the misfire and code...

Thanks, again

disconnecting the battery for like 5 minutes will turn the light off.Or you could unplug the pcm for a few and it will do it.Oh and by the way if the check engine light is flashing you aren't supposed to drive it because it means potential catalytic converter damage

Understood about the flashing light -- after I drove it! Read the manual and it told me that...OOPS.

I have yet to try disconnecting the battery.

Is there not another way to reset -- servicemen or engineers, please?

you could use a scanner like a drb 3

If the problem has cleared, the check engine light will extinguish itself after a few good restarts.
If it remains on, you still have a problem.
