1997 toyota camry le V6bretness 12-22-2004, 12:55 PM I have a 1997 toyota camry le v6. i bought it used, and the car didn't come with a keyless entry. I was reading the owners manual and it says that this car has a remote keyless entry and then it gives me a fcc number for it. is there anyway to verify this? so if i buy one (ie ebay) i know it will work? thanks yotatechie04 12-29-2004, 02:39 AM You need to determine which model keyless system you have...which you could either spend a better half of a day ripping your dash apart, or you could call your local dealer and see if they can help you determine. As soon as you're able to determine which model system you have, all you have to do is search for a key fob that's compatible with your system. cdlubbe 12-29-2004, 12:52 PM Hello:I just purchased a 1998 Camry LE,and I did not get any remotes either. The parts manager at the local Toyota dealership was kind enough to run the vin# of my car,and his computer gave him a readout of every option the car came with.I found out that my car did NOT have the standard keyless entry system, but it did have the RS3000 Security Alarm System that used remotes also. The remotes look completely different from the standard keyless entry remotes. So to make a long story short,I have the correct remote on its way as we speak by Priority Mail. Can hardly wait to get it!!! The first one I ordered was the wrong one. So,I have a extra remote for the standard keyless entry system. The first remote I ordered was in-correct and is the black and has (3) buttons on it."Lock/Un-Lock/Panic". When the correct remote gets here,I will have to try to program it.Never done this before, but I do have the directions to do it. I will post how that goes. I hope all goes well with your keyless remote. Best Regards...Chuck Lubbe Silvis,Illinois bretness 01-05-2005, 08:23 AM yes i will be very interested to know how it turns out! let me know and thanks! I have a 1998 Camry XLE, I bought it used last year and it did come with remotes but the remotes have a very very poor range, 3-5 feet. Based on the manual and other messages I have read it seems to be normal. In my opinion what’s the point of a remote if you have to be practically at the car to use it. So the big question is, is there a after market remote or modification that can be done to extend the range. The only thing that comes to mind is a remote car starter but with that option I would have to figure a way around the ignition disabler system before the remote starter would work. Mike Gerber 01-10-2005, 03:53 PM I also have a 98 Camry XLE with the factory remote system. It was a stock item on the XLE from this year. My remotes work at a greater range depending upon interference. Try changing the batteries in the remotes before anything. Chances are they are the original batteries that came with the car. Mike JLukas 01-10-2005, 04:21 PM Thanks for the suggestion, my thoughts were the same when I first tried the remotes after I got the car. Replaced batteries in both remotes, I get the same range from both remotes. Sometimes from the front of the car I can get around 10 feet, but thats about it. What kind of range do you get Mike? Just curious to see what I should be expecting from these remotes. Thanks Jake Mike Gerber 01-10-2005, 06:12 PM Jake, I just went out and tried it. Today I got about 15 feet, but it can vary from location to location. My local Toyota dealer is right near a radio station's transmitting tower. My remotes wont work at all in their parking lot. One tech there once told me if they have to program a remote for a car there they have to close all the doors to the service area and literally hold the remote right on top of the car to get it to program (work). So, your range can really vary from place to place. I would try to test the range at various locations for the car, not just at home or at work. Maybe try a local shopping mall's parking lot where you can park way out in the lot away from most of the parked cars. Good luck with the problem. Mike JLukas 01-11-2005, 11:15 PM Mike thanks for checking the distance. I tried to get a better idea on the total distance I can expect from these remotes. It seems like I can get up to 10-13 feet facing the front of the car, approching the car from the rear I can get 4 or less depending on the angle. So it appears that based on your distance my remotes might be in spec. FOr now I will have to be content with at least having working remotes :) Thanks again for your advice. Jake yotatechie04 01-12-2005, 04:11 AM The owner's manual says that if you are experiencing poor remote performance, you should change the battery. Try this before assuming that there is something else wrong. hontoy 01-12-2005, 04:30 AM I have a 1997 toyota camry le v6. i bought it used, and the car didn't come with a keyless entry. Not everything that goes wrong requires a technician to fix. Mike Gerber 01-12-2005, 12:40 PM Jake, Yesterday I got around 20 feet from the rear of the car as I was walking away from it. I took my own advice and parked at the far end of a parking lot. The distance of these remotes can really vary depending on the location of the car.
