Whats with the ZL-1!!!
I havent heard another thing about this Camaro ZL1 after market kit since it was a little bit of the buzz.

My real Questin is can you acctually buy the stuff?:confused:
I think its kinda dumb to make all that hype and SHIZNIC about the dang thing if you cant even try buy it!!!! :confused:

Many concepts never go into production. Its sad, I know, but common.

But as this concept was like a factory made one off drag car, I'd imagine that all the parts that went into the ZL-1 can be purchased, can't they?

This probably wont interest you, but originally the ZL-1 was an all-aluminum 427. It had 12.5:1 compression, and made 585hp. There are only a handful of these engines in existence.

I have a video of supposedly that ZL1 at the drag strip. It ran 9.55 at 144mph...you should hear it...AMERICAN MUSCLE all right...

It's sole intention?
To compete with Ford's BOSS Mustang.
They've got a bit of a rivalry, and every couple of years they build some CRAZY car and test em on both the dragstrip and then the roadcourse.
The ZL1 is actually setup to roadrace, so it lost to the Stang at the strip, but kicked its ASS at the road course...

That ZL1 has been around since the day of the LT1's.
It used to be an LT1 body infact.

This ZL1 "kit" isn't a kit at all and isn't offered by GM as such. The "new ZL1" Camaro was a toy from the Chevrolet Special Vehicles department and used a cheezy "aero-kit" and hoodscoop from A&A fiberglass. It used a recently re-released ZL1 427 ci aluminum engine to showcase the parts available through GM Performance Parts.

That engine looks as awful lot like the original ZL-1 engine. Kinda odd to put a 35 year old engine into a new car, but cool nonetheless:D

No color tubing and neon lights under the hood?

The engine is actually quite new. It's frequently updated with GM's lates hi-perf. parts. The ZL-1 is actually a shining example of what YOU could make with GM Performance Parts...

35 year old concept, but what you don't see is the 6-throat electronic fuel injection system under that air filter or the CNC ported heads, or any of the other goodies that help that engine pump out over 750 horsepower. Cool indeed!!

I said it looked an awful lot like the original ZL-1. I just meant they were similar, and I rather like the engine, it looks really powerful.

GM makes good performance parts, but they are usually overlooked, as they are from 'the factory':confused: :rolleyes:

i don't think you can buy all the parts to make a zl-1 yourself... i thought i read that it had an aluminum-pushrod 8.4 liter v8. could be i'm just on crack, though....

I believe it's an 8.4L engine as well.
I'm not saying you can buy the parts already IN a car.
No way...
But you CAN buy most, if not all the parts thru GM's High Performance division. They offer a lot of aftermarket parts, and I believe they used most of them on this car.
