95 JGC Laredo, 4.0, 2wd, 42RE. Will not shift out of first to second gear until ~38 mph is reached. Once it is in 2nd, all shifting and operation is normal. Once I hit 38mph and have to slow down it will not downshift back into second until around 20 mph. Checked oil - was a bit dark so drained pan, changed oil and filter (mopar products), disconnected cooler return line, hooked up hose and flushed until new fluid pumped out. Topped off level and took for test drive - no change. Checked code. #12 Output shaft speed sensor. Made sense. Went back to dealer, bought new sensor and installed for around $25. Test drove - still no change. Disconnected battery for about 1.5 hours. Test drove again - still no shift to second until 38 mph. Checked code again - now it is #26, Governor pressure sensor offset drift. Went back to the dealer to pick up other parts and asked about this "Governor pressure sensor offset drift". Tried to sell me $300 worth of pressure solenoid/sensor. Other option was to reflash the module. I can't afford to "try stuff out" until it works. Anybody have any ideas? Thanks!! Chad

check the Throttle Valve (TV) cable, ahve you noticed the pedal getting easier to push?

the TV cable is located on the throttle lever of the throttle body on the oposite side of the Cruise Control and Accelerator cable. make sure it's connected.

I had this problem in my 94 ZJ, I broke the end of the TV cable where it hooks onto the throttle Lever, and it did this samething. except for I didn't drive it up to 38 mph, I only got to about 25 mph w/out any shifting, I only drove it for about a block before I took it back into the garage and looked over everything and saw the TV cable wasn't hooked up.

I also had a problem with my 1993 jeep grand cherokee not shifting out of first gear. I didnt want to drive the thing fearing that I would do engine damage. I asked a mechanic and all it was was a blown fuse. There are two fuse boxes in the grand cherokee. One on the passenger side on the side of the glove compartment and one under the engine. I forget exactly which fuse it was but you can look at them and see if they are blown. Hope this helps.

Fuses are fine and TV cable appears to be fully operational. A buddy is bringing a $3k scanner home over Christmas so we can check it out with that. I still have a feeling it is the Governor Pressure Solenoid. Chad

thats a good bet, i had a major trans overhaul and rear differential work done a couple years ago and it still was shifting whack, it turned out to be a solenoid problem and AAMCO fixed it, it might run you a couple hun

I'm sticking with OEM parts on this deal. I'll keep you posted as I get it fixed. Thanks! Chad

$300 bought the Transducer and Solenoid. There is an aluminum block that has to be dropped to remove these parts. Some black nasty oil came out of the passages so I let it drain for a long time. Cleaned the block, swapped the parts, hooked it all up and test drove. Worked PERFECT! Problem solved and hoping to make 300K.....thanks for all the inputs guys! Chad
