My freinds girlfreind just got a 97 Cavalier, and he called me last night asking if I could look at it and find out why the gas is disapearing from the tank. My 1st thought was gas thieves since I doubt she would lock her gas cap if it is even has a lock. But he said it happend while they were at the mall Christmas shopping too. Now, i know some people are brave, but siphoning gas in a mall garage during holiday shopping? doubtful. So, my next thought was: Maybe theres a hole just big enough to let oxygen in/out and fuel vapors are leaving through this. Is that a possibility? Lastly, I thought it may be the fuel sensing units or whatever.
Please help me out here...I know quite a bit about cars, but I havent even finished my 1st year of Auto. Technology and people already want repairs...

possible leak in the fuel line somewhere... running rich all the time too would cause for it to drain pretty quick...it would just dissapear that quick due to air exposure...
