I have a 1999 Dodge Ram Van 1500. The second to the highest setting of the fan control for the heater won't work. All of the other settings work. Is this a switch problem? I am looking to fix it the cheapest way possible. Getting ready to sell it. Does anybody have any advice?

(dodge) If Your Fan Motor Is Working And Your Switch Works In Some Positions. Your Problem Is In The Wiring . Get A Multi-meter And Check For A Break In The Line. You Still Need To Pull The Fan Motor And Clean The Box. I Found A Wal-mart Bag In One. Get A Piece Screen Like You Would Put In Your House And Screw It To The Vent Opening On The Passenger Side. It Will Keep It From Getting Worse Later.

Do you know the easiest way to access the fan motor? It is funny thing about the bag in the vent. I had one in there once and it made a ton of noise. I got it out with a coat hanger. Didn't think that it could cause more problems with it.

Also, I had a person tell me that it was the resistor block that was causing the problem too. Although, I don't know where the resistor block is located.

The fan motor is under the hood left side facing. It is below the ac system. Should have 3 small hex screws or 3 small nuts. Its a real pain to get to the bottom screw. once off, you'll want to bring it out from the top. If the plastic fan part is damaged you can get one from dodge for $5 or $6 dollars. The whole thing is around $100. You can test the motor by plugging it in and holding it in your hands, while sombody runs through the switches. Be safe.
