I have a 97' JGC with a v-8, 94k mile. I get 16mpg on the highway and 9.8 in the city. But gas prices are pretty reasonable in the city so I guess the low mpg is cancelled out by the super cheap gas! Anyone know how I can get that city mpg a little higher? I recently had the fuel pump assembly, filter, pressure regulator replaced. Thanks

o2 sensor replacement will be the most bang for your buck assurance to much better mileage. They are supposed to be changed every 25k (With your hoses!) and you will notice a big difference. If money is tight, you can just replace the upstream sensor behind the bellhousing, as the sensor behind the cat is reall only for cat diagnostics.

My 98 JGC 5.2 would pull 19 on the highway, but 11 in the city. The new Wrangler Unlimited is still under it's FrankenJeep construction, haven't driven it much yet. Assume/hope/pray it will be better, but I doubt it.

Ok, Whats the secret here to the respectable gas mileage. 21 MPG with a V8? I have a 4.0 and in the very best of conditions I can get 19 MPG. In perfect tune, correct tire pressures and tires also driving with a light foot. I can get that going down hill I suspect but ....In the real world? What mods have you guys with the 4.0`s done to improve your mileage? Is 20-25 MPG out of the question?

'96 JGC Limited w/I-6, 124,000 miles and needs a lot of work but runs fair, all-time 4x4. Gets about 18-20 on the highway and about 10-12 in the city. If I keep the speed around 55-60mph I can average about 22, but if I try and do 70mph or more it drops to 17 or 18 at best.

Well you say it gets 22 MPG and it runs fair? You should get at least 30MPG when you get it straightened out. ...lol. In my case, I live in the Catskill mountain region so that does account for some of the MPG problem, Lots of hilly areas. I`ll just hope that the wind is at my back at all times.

30 mpg? I haven't heard of anyone getting that, even with the 6 vs. the 8. That would be a great improvement, but I considered an SUV getting 20 on the open road about average. This is taking into account some slight hills, on all flat and about 100 miles of non-stop driving I can nurse the average up to 22, maybe 25 if I drive at the sweet spot - 55mph.

My 99 JGC (4.0L I-6) gets about 14 in evryday driving and 16-18 mpg on the highway.

I am NOT impressed at all.. This is about the same as a monster Suburban with a V8, in fact the Suburban can get nearer 20mpg on the highway...

The JGC seems to run good, but it must be pulling an invisible anchor or something to get the low figures eveyone speaks of.

I have no answers, just a wish that it got better economy...

I now know how some of you are getting your mileage numbers. My overhead says I`m averaging 23mpg. At the pump I do the math and the numbers are not the same. Still getting 19mpg.

assuming your engine is running well, changing plugs, O2 sensors, catalytic converter, air filter, cleaning throttle body, cleaning or replacing clogged injectors, etc. can all help your mileage. some of those are more cost effective than others make sure to gap your plugs correctly if you replace them .040in gapped basic mopar or champion copper truck plugs for the 4.7L are the best. mopar platinum stud tipped for the 4.7L HO.

a heavy foot will kill mileage on any vehicle. i get that mileage and i'm not a grandma with the throttle by any means, but if you're always hitting the throttle at traffic lights you will kill your mileage

Hi ,if you have a 4.0 6l get rid of that huge viscousfan on the front of your engine ,and replace it with an electric one .it really does improve your gas mpg
