What circulates the oil in my truck ?

I have a 94 dodge ram 1500 swd 5.2 litler engine and i was wondering if it had a oil pump, if not what pumps the oil into the engine ? Also my truck has 170,000 miles on it.. should i be worried about the oil pump ? thanks

yes your truck has an oil pump. weather or not to be woried about is really depends on how your oil preasure is. however, even if your oil preasure is low, it dosn't automatically mean that the pump is going bad.

my oil pressure light goes on sometimes and the pressure drops to zero.

Well, I'd have it looked at. I had my oil gauge on my 96 360 go out about 3 years ago. It was just the sending unit, but it scared the crap out of me because I was about 100 miles from the nearest shop.

However, the light didn't come on. Take it to a Auto Zone if you have one around you. They will check the computer for free.

I was told Synthetic was the was to go buy my friend how is a mech. at the local benz. dealer. Aparently syn. oil paticals a smaller and penitrate better that regular oil. Thus protecting your engine better. This might be true might be bull!. Another thing I was told about syn. oil is that if you switch back a forth you lose the benifits of the syn. So once out start using it keep on using it. I use syn oil in every thing on the truck, exept the tranny (was told not to). When I switch the diffs over I got about 2MPG increase in the winter too.
