gas in my oil? Natebomb 12-19-2004, 12:07 PM
Hello, I posted not too long ago about my car overheating all the time. I still haven't figured out exactly what it is, but I think it is something to do with the fan. Anyway, my car started over heating yesterday again. So, I pulled over and shut it off for a bit. When I started it back up, a big burst of smoke came out of the muffler and floated into the sky. When I got home, the car just quit. I got out and checked all my fluids and everything and when checking my oil, for some reason, I smelled it. When I did, I got a strong smell of gas and it dripped onto the ground and made that rainbow color in the snow when you drop gas. Now, should I be smelling gas in my oil? If not, what would be the cause of gas getting into my oil? Could it be my exhaust system? I ask this because recently I found my muffler hanging so I wired it back up. Perhaps there was a crack in one of the sections of pipe or something/ By the way, my car is a 96 sunfire 2.2L. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated. public 12-22-2004, 05:05 PM You could simply have a sticky fuel injector sticking open after shut down. This allows gas to fill the cylinder. A short drive will not be enough to evap all of it. If this does not seem to be the case check compression to see if you have a bad head gasket or cracked head.
