I have a 1994 jeep cherokee 4.0 4+4. And the blower makes a whirling sound especially when it 1st starts up...sounds llike it's right under glove box..it'll go away after a few seconds but then will come back again ...sounds like a wheel of some kind rubbing or something...anybody ever had this problem???

Your description sounds like a dry bearing. Most people just replace the blower motor but a few will take the time to figure out how to lube it and get another few months out of it.

you will need to remove the blower motor in any case so price out a new on from several suppliers and decide if it is worth the $.

The blower motor is removed from the engine compartment on the passenger side.

Thanks for responding...I think i will take out the motor and grease it up...looks fairly simple to take out...sounds like a shaft or something or bearing..i thought it might have been that wheel at the other end of the shaft...anyway it's really annoying when it gets squealing..have to try grease 1st.. ty

It worked great!!!! I removed the blower motor and greased it up good with grease spray... and no more screeching whirling noises..
