Hey everyone whats up? Well, the next thing on my "to-do" list is rims. I wanna find out more about sizes and everything b4 I buy anything. I really dont know what all the numbers mean though. Like 4X100, 40mm whats that all about? What is offset? What other numbers do I need to know, to make sure certain rims fit my car? If a rim is 18X8 what size tires would I need to get? 215/35/18 ?? Confused! :confused:

4x100 is the bolt pattern. 4 = 4 lugs needed 100 = 100mm bolts.

tire size is as follows

205/40/17

205: width of tire so if it were 17x7 the 7 would be the width
40: 40 is the height of the sidewall
17: is the rim diameter that will fit into the tire.

offset is a little harder for me to explain. i need to use images for you. but the site that has them is blocked from my school.

205, is that like a measurement in like mm or something? and 205 will fit the width 7"? what about 215. like whats the difference in using those sizes? will they fit the 7"? Does 205 only correspond to the 7" width?

205 is 7" in millimeters.
205 is only 7".
215 is 7.5"
225 is 8"
and it goes up from there 10mm is like 1/2" pretty much

Things are a little more clear now :rolleyes: :D Do you know any links where I can read about the offset and other important stuff?!?! :smoker2:

205-40/17:

205 in the overall tire width (sidewall to sidewall) in millimeters
40 is the apect ratio (the height of the sidewall), expressed as a % of the width
17 is the wheel diameter in inches

actually, the bolt pattern is the greatest distance between the bolts, measured in millimeters... check this out for more info... (http://www.tirerack.com/wheels/tech/boltpatt.htm)

i don't know of a page that shows proper/suggested wheel offsets. the tire rack has databases of info on what fits and what doesn't, so you could call them and ask what the suggested offset is for a given wheel width on your car.

and i measured my sidewall with a ruler. 4cm or 40mm so i figure it isnt percent? or is it?

no problem :)

the sidewall height is a percentage of your tire's width. so a 40-series tire has a sidewall height of 40% of its overall width.

for example, i have 205-50/16 tires. the width is 8.1 in and the sidewall height is 3.2 in.
