alright, there're way too many questions about "what mod is best" ,"which mod should i do first", "just got this car, and i have a heavy wallet, tell me what to do" type of questions, im gonna start a thread, hopefully other people will continue, that lists the mods that i have on the car. then more people, if they want, can add to the post by posting what they've done to their car(s). that way if anyone would like to know what to do with their cars, they can just look in this post and see what stuff they like. and if they think this post will make people not be creative...well, if they were creative, they wouldn't be asking these questions right? no offense, but yeah its true.

o and pics would help too.

so, everybody, list away and show off your car(s) :)

o and this isn't limited to only gti's, i just posted in the gti forum cuz enthusiasts tend to drive the gti more than other vw's. anyawy... o and also, please dont post things that you want, dream about, or post someone else's car. thats just.. cheap

well, to start off with, any fast car needs more air, and more fuel. that being said, factory intake and exhaust is very restrictive

first mods should always be an intake (whether cold air, ram air, whatever...just get a decent k&n filter and stick it on a pipe for all i care) and exhaust, turbo back if youve got a turbo, cat back if you're NA and eventually want to go turbo (no sense in wasting money on headers) or block back if you intend to stay NA, just use nitrous, or want to supercharge

then get a fuel air meter, tune it, and if you need more fuel, get a better pump/larger injectors.

thats all ive actually done to my car. exhaust and intake.

but then i would concentrate on suspension tuning, braking and all those other things people tend to neglect or leave till last. no sense in having a car with 400 hp if you cant turn or stop

my intention of the post was so that people could list their mods and show off their car so other people who dunno much in the subject can see what other people have done with their respective cars. but hey, any post is better than no post, and you did put what you did to your car, so keep em coming :)

I have a VR6 but it's a Jetta. Hi EdSpecR what's been up? One thing is I've been at clubrsx.com and one cool thing they one part of the site dedicated to dyno plots and what mods they have on them. It's really cool b/c there is more than one car wtith the same mods so you can see how 2 cars with the same mods react differently to them. Someone should start a site that shows each dyno plot one guy did but then no one decided to add anymore.

well,hi edspecR. I have a 89' mk2 gti. The mods are:
exterior.
1st: Manhatan look (doors, front & rear bumpers sideskirts) all o.e. and nothing more.
17' bbs rx's all around
Interior.
full black leather interior.
vw digital instrument panel.
under the hood.
gearbox.
changed from 020-2Y to 02A (the one of Corrado)
as it can cope with more power.
custom crown-pinion set 1/3,68, custom gears 1st thru 5th.
engine.
stroked to 2 litter
"light"-forged lightweight pistons, forged lightweight rods, lightened and balanced crankshaft.
ported and flowed head.
new titanium valves
larger valve seats
Schrick 276 deg cams+adjustable gears for both cams.
metal head gasket
compresion ratio 12,2/1.
misc.
rev limitter to 8300.
air-oil external cooler.
suspension.
adjustable bilstein yellows all over (upside-down fronts)(narrow coils)
corrado g60 front swaybar +rear swaybar.
Powerflex silent blocks all over
exhaust.
magnex 4-1 pro manifold, from there down magnex 50mm with 2 silencers no cat.

Unfortunatelly the motor does not work as well as I would like :shakehead , so untill Easter I will have installed custom made throttle bodies and a new Emerald ecu, as the K-Jetronic just can not cope with the extent of the mods. Think that you just might not be the only one infatuated with his car. Don't you? :smokin:

Also, I was thinking-if my wallet is not on fire till then- to install a 6 speed gearbox but that will be in the future.

Motor 12v VR6.

Motor Mods.

Neuspeed exhaust(however I suggest exhausts with 2.5 diameter not 2.25 consistent dyno pulls have shown them to give more hp/tq)

Turn2 Cold Air Intake
GIAC Chip
Unorthodoxy Pullies
Autotech 10lbs. lightened flywheel
Schrick Intake manifold
Techtonics 264/260 cams
2.9 Euro spec throttle body
Bosal Header.(however I don't suggest b/c no gains have been seen from headers for the VR6)

Suspension
Neuspeed springs
Bilstein Sports Shocks.

Factory BBS Rims
and balding Khumo Ecstas
I've found out that Khumo Ecstas work well for the street but for the track they just spin.

Anyone know anything about Yokahama's when it comes to the track?

With my set up the car works well in all rpms. The fly wheel isn't so light that it effects idle.
The Unorthodoxy light pullies don't effect the alternator bad at all. You may notice some dimming at idle but nothing drastic unless you are also into ICE and if you are in my opinion you might want to buy seperate cars or be able to take the ICE out when you want to race. However I have a very utilitarian Marxist view when it comes to cars if you want to race the car put things on it that will only help make the car go faster. If you want to make it a show car make it a show car. Trying to do both at the sametime and you're just not giving it all you could. That's my view and you have yours and that's cool. Later. Oh yeah EdspecR I forgot to file my taxes last year and finally I did them late this december and am getting $1200 back and I haven't even filed this years taxes. So once I do that I'm going to install my new/used engine along with a Techtonics Big Valve Head,Techtonics Hi Flow cat, Turn2 Motor/tranny mounts, and a MKIV head gasket. When I do that I will write a review on how they changed the car and how they affected the powerband. Later.
