Well 2 days afeter I get the car from the auction, there's this scraping noise coming from where the timing chain meets the camshaft. It sounds like metal scraping metal about 3-4 times a second during idle.

(cchhhk-cchhhk-cchhhk-cchhhk)

Tried replaceing the timing chain and slide guides. No luck there. Does anybody have any ideas on what could be wrong.

Replacing that timing chain with the engine in the car is a real pain in the butt too.

Edit: Oh yeah, it's a '94

I would say it's your accesory belt - you're belt could be partially thrown. This happened when I raced a guy once in my 01 GA and reved too high and apparently it partially threw the belt. After the race I heard a similar sound from the same area, but after I restarted my car it went away. My belt had been partially thrown, so it was scraping when it was going around, but when I turned off my car the tensioner relaxed, and then pulled it back in line when I restarted it. Your tensioner just may not be pulling it back on all the way. You might try pulling the belt and then putting it back on, or maybe even getting a new belt. Check your tensioner too - it might be messed up and not be taking up the slack.

Thanks Lots. It seems that the bearings in the water pump were shot. The noise shot straight through the accessory belt and up the timing chain housing making it sound like it was coming from up top Oh well. Parts are ordered and should come in tomorrow.
Thanks again.
