serpentine belt broke/Ac locked uprayray061572 12-14-2004, 01:28 PM Can I replace the belt without fixing the AC? I want to bypass the ac altogether. What size belt do I need. It is for a 97 taurus. Help Please! Willyum 12-14-2004, 01:43 PM The pulley on the compressor should free wheel when the A/C is off. You can disconnect the electrical to the clutch so it won't accidentally be engaged. Don't think that you'll have any luck running a belt that skips the compressor. rayray061572 12-14-2004, 01:53 PM The pulley on the compressor should free wheel when the A/C is off. Any suggestions? Willyum 12-15-2004, 01:43 AM Sorry, can't think of anything without looking at it. If all you want to do is let it free wheel, it shouldn't be very costly to get it turning again. rayray061572 12-15-2004, 03:40 PM Sorry, can't think of anything without looking at it. Works fine for now but will have to get the ac repaired before summer. Thanks for all your help. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
