I have a 96 buick lesabre with the factory cd player. This cd player does not play cd/rw's or mp3 songs. I want to get a brand new cd player but have a question. My car has some radio and cd player controls in the steering wheel, and I was wondering if i was to install a new cd player would those controls on the steering wheel still work?
Thanks for the help

If you want a new radio, you'll need an adapter for steering wheel controls.

On the old radio, It'll play mp3's on a CD-R, but not a CD-RW.

There are a couple companies that sell modules to adapt the GM steering wheel controls to an aftermarket radio.

The one I've read the most about taps into the serial line coming from the serial data sent by the steering wheel controls. It then translates this into IR (Infrared) signals and sends them to the factory aftermarket player like the handheld remote control.

In fact... I still have the PDF to the module I'm refering open. Take a look, it's pretty interesting....

Beyond that... wanna sell me your factory headunit after you replace it? :naughty:
