busted beltsnooky 12-12-2004, 11:03 AM I own a 1989 sedan deville which belonged to my father who rarely drove it(it only has 61,000 miles on it). The belt broke the other day and I was about 2 blocks from my parking garage which I drove to. Now I need to get it to a mechanic who is about 2 miless away. Beside from being hard to steer I believe I can drive there. Would this be unwise? What is a resonable price for that belt replacement? rickszymanski 12-14-2004, 02:50 AM You can drive it a short way, but if it starts to get hot you have to turn off the car. with the belt off the water pump won't be pumping. make sure to check the pulleys and remove any of the old belt that can tangle in them. shake the water pump pulley, if it's loose you should replace the pump. It will be the pulley in the center of the engine with 3 bolts. I own a 1989 sedan deville which belonged to my father who rarely drove it(it only has 61,000 miles on it).
