if you want the "lawn mower honda" import sound, just swap the muffler

whatever other muffler you want, ask around or stop in at a custom stop to find one with the sound you want. from what i see on the street the larger the outlet the louder the sound(or in my mind crappier, silience is golden)

Cutting a hole or something will make it louder but it isn't good for the muffler; i think you lose a little bit of power, but you might as well if you really want the sound and replace it with a good 4" diameter titanium or stainless steel unit that gives you the sound in like a month or so. They range from 120-250. I don't know how much installation will be to fabricate one on or anything. Most come with a removable silencer to keep people like Sierra happy as well.

More import? you dont want that sound coming from a saturn trust me.. Saturn tunners want a nice throaty beefy sound coming from the exhaust pipes..if you dont wanna put an exhaust system then just punch out your catalytic converter that way it sounds like you car is running 2.5" tubing the whole way down.. seriously though just get a new muffler. its the best way to change the sound of your car and turn a few heads.

:grinyes: yes, to many people think saturn is a import already. THEY ARE MADE IN AMERICA!!!

just punch out your catalytic converter

:nono: no, that is illegal and will cause engine problems down the road.

removing the cat converter and the rest of the exhaust pipe on will have the same effect; if someone put a gun to my head and made me choose (the only time i would think of doing it at all). I've never seen it done with a car though, just a few Chevy S-10s.

Well, i got a tip. as most of you may know, the original saturn pipe points down, which in turn, made my tip point down. so what i did, was cut off all of the pipe past the muffeler, except about a inch (so i can still mount the tip) it sounds a little different, but only after the rpm's die down from revving it. its not very loud tho. i did order a turbo sounding device tho, which should be in tomorrow. i want to see how loud that is before i change my exhaust.. but i did notice a litle rust on the bottom of my muffeler(sp) and im thinking i can just hit the rust with a screw driver a few times and make a hole, increasing the loudness. eventually i will buy a new muffeler with a large output can.. but thats about 3 weeks away, maybe more, depending on what i buy else, and how much i make. i did buy some extra lights tho, some little fog lights i mounted a little inside the front bumper. in combination with my blue turn signals, and hyper white low beams, it looks pretty imtimidating.(sp)

TRY E-BAY FOR CHEAP MUFFLERS! some as low as just shipping ~$40

i dont recommend punching holes in your exhaust, or doing a cut-out ( cutting six inches of pipe out behind the headers = dumps)
although with a big v8 this CAN sound nice, with a car like ours -4 cyl. or even 6. exhaust leaks make you lose power (back-pressure) and you lose that good sound your lookin for. it leads to a whoosh type of sound when revving instead of that "bee in a tin can" or "throaty" sound which depends on your:
- muffler tip (especially outlet size)
- pipe size from headers
- cat (or free-flow cat) and cat back pipe.
I've spent money fixing exhaust leak problems, for your own good wait for a new tip, then maybe cat back exhaust, but be aware that the inlet size of the muffler should match your cat back pipe (1 3/4" stock) or it could cost you an extra ~$30 to get it welded on.

IF THATS THE SOUND YOUR LOOKING FOR, TRY NO MUFFLER!

my friend is getting a computer controlled dump on his z28, it move a six inch section of pipe out of the exhaust pipe behind the cat (would be before the cat but z28s have cats practically on the headers)

basically here is the deal. IF you buy a cheap ebay muffler it will sound cheap. i'm on my 2nd one and the inside burns out and just becomes raspy. dont make it loud yet its just more tickets that you dont wanna pay nor does it sound like you have the money. if you're gonna do it make sure you have the money to back it up. an exhaust ticket in NY is about 50-80 bucks each time. my car has the 91-92 header and downpipe along with a high flow cat 2.25" piping to an ebay muffler... its REALLY REALLY LOUD. i suggest a sleeper style OEM muffler. much more efficient.

i had a 94 wagon with a magnaflow muffler it ran about 175 dollers and 30 to have it installed but i wasnt happy, it just wasnt deep enough it just made it sound lie a weed eater then i had th resienater cut off then it was loud as hell,it added depth you should try that combo,if your motor has been beefed up you could also use a slightly wider exhaust pipe but not if you power plant is stock
good luck flatire

I had a hole right behind my catalytic converter and got that shitty lawn mower sound, got it fixed as soon as I could.
