rough running when cold

I have a 98' jeep grand cherokee with a 4.0L when cold it starts fine
but then starts to spit and sputter and acts like its getting no power
then when it reaches normal temp"210" it runs fine. It has no codes I have had two different mechanics look at it both do not know the problem. I have replaced the fuel pump,battery,cps,tps,plugs and wires,ing. coil,pick up coil,dis. cap,o2 sensors,new cat and muffler,and coolent temp sensor. If anyone has any ideas let me know.

Check out the aic valve this is the air idle cntrol valve. have you cleaned the throttlebody lately. Remove the air filter hose ,inside the throttlebody bore you will see a slot. This controls the idle system, get a can of spray throttle body cleaner, use the straw that comes on can. Start jeep hold on high idle ,use short bursts, spray into slot clean good. Spray around valve in bore this will wash the walls below. you can do this every 10-15 thsd. miles if you do offroading hope this helps Dale jeepman600@aol.com :2cents:

Dear Jeep Man - Thank you very much for your suggestion. It sounds like the Air Idle Control Valve could be the solution to my problem but I wanted to as you a couple of questions first…
Are you suggesting that we try cleaning the throttlebody Before replacing the AICV ? I’m not sure what the throttle body is, but I pulled the air intake hose off to expose what looks like a carburetor (although I have fuel injection). I see what looks like an air control flap so I figure I’m in the right place. I assume this is where I spray the cleaner ? Also, do you mind describing to me what the AIC valve looks like ? Thanks again !

I have a 1994 Grand Cherokee 4.0 and I had the same problem. I got a reply from 2BitLive. He suggested pretty much the same as Jeep Man. I removed the throttle body, a very simple task by removing the air cleaner, 3 quick release cable connections and for 10 mm bolts. I cleaned the valve thoroughly with carburetor cleaner and filled the AICV cavities with carb cleaner several times sloshing it around each time. The first two or three times I poured out the cleaner from the cavity it was very dirty and got progressively cleaner. I put it all back together and it runs just great. P.S. What part of Tennessee? LEL
