My 04 has the rail caps on the bed that match the one on the tailgate. Just looking for opinions because I'm gonna get a line-x and I can't decide whether to leave the caps in place or to take them off and have the lixe-x go over the rail. Thx.

I am thinking about that very same question and also going to go with a line-x as well. How are those rail caps held in place?

I know the one on the tailgait is put on with adhesive, I would figure the others are as well. My advise would be to leave the caps on so it's sure to match.

My truck has a Line-X, and it's over the bed rails. One seamless installation. No chance for stuff to get stuck in the seams.

Btw, when I had my bed liner installed, there was a guy there with a window van that had been striped out inside. He had the van sprayed upi to the windows inside (but not in the cab area), and around the bottom of the van outside maybe about 12" high. I thought that was pretty interesting.

I would say just to leave the bed caps on and spray under. For one, it will be cheaper, and for 2, ive seen a truck with Line-x sprayed over the rails...To me, it dident look to eye pleasing. I mean, the bed caps will to the same thing, and they will look alot better. I think you should try to see a truck with it sprayed over the rails and see what you think. Maybe it was just where the person got it done that made it look shitty.

I've got mine sprayed with line-x over the rails. I think it looks awesome. Clean lines, black truck, black liner. Some of it depends on the quality of the application. I recommend Line-X.

i got my 2001 silverado ext cab short box done with line-x. I bought the truck with about 86k miles and it never had a bedliner in it, and it had dents in the metal from shovels and whatever else and scratches in the paint of the bed. now with the bedliner i can't even tell that there ever was any of that underneath. its smooth and even all the way across.
i had my bedrails done too, and i wouldn't do it any other way, you know for sure its not going to ever come off, and there is no seam between the spray on and a bed cap that could allow moisture, plus with line-x, if your liner ever gets damaged you just take it in and they repair it as many times as you like (even though i've never had to), your not going to get that kind of warranty like that on a bed cap...its worth the 50 extra bucks or whatever it is. its for life!

I had an '01 S-10 that I had a Zebart spray in liner installed in the bed.........the first time I used it I gouged the liner all the way down to the paint. Luckily it wasn't down to the metal!! Yeah, it had a lifetime warranty....I think it meant that I was going to spend a lifetime having it repaired everytime I used the truck for work. It's only my opinion, but I will never have another spray in liner!! The drop ins are less expensive and a whole bunch thicker....(durable). But I guess it all depends on wheather you're using your truck for work or for play. If any of you have the spray in installed, I hope that you have better luck than I did.

The only thing drop-ins are good for is keeping moisture under them and rusting out your bed alot faster, and make sure you take it to a professional if you do have it sprayed in, other wise it might be done too thin, might peel, or even crack. I have sprayed a few and if it's a little more of a job than you think if it's done right.

Line-X over the rail is fine. That's what I did on mine. Looks good. Only drawback is that if you're planning to load something in over the rail, you better have a shirt on! That stuff's like 60-grit sand paper. It's not good on your skin. I've hit my liner numerous times with sharp metal and it's never flinched. I love that stuff.

So how much does a over the rail line-x cost for a short bed?

Don't know about a short bed, but around here a long bed is $449.00

I hear alot of talk about Line-X, but what about Rhino Lining?

I've placed 3 phone calls to the local Rhino-liner dealer, and have yet to speak to a real person, or get a reply to my messages.
I'll let you know as soon as the Rhino-liner people decide they want to see something...

I'd go with Line-X. Leave the factory bed caps. One day I want to go with Line-X, remove the bed caps and add a fiberglass tonneau. I think the bed caps are "snapped" into place in the "tie-down holes." Might be some adhesive but I'm not sure.

I prefer the drop-ins myself. I've seen alot of them rub through the paint underneath, but very little rust involved (it won't rust out in your lifetime). I've seen alot of sloppy installs done on spray-ins and I know drop-ins are slick, but if you also put a rubber mat in the bottom that will take care of that problem.

I've got an '03 Chevy right now that had a Line-x in it when I bought it, it looks great, but it's also nearly new. The spray-ins will fade and chalk with age, and if the truck isn't prepped properly, they will also peel.

My Line-x over the top was around $500 or so on a short bed here in St. Louis. I got the same thing from the Rhino people, it was as if they did not want my business. Line-x was an excellent Experience.

Line X Is Tough Shit ....i Have A Cousin Who Owns A 2002 Ranger And Had It Sprayed In And Had A 2ton Jack Roll And Hit The Tail End And Didnt Even Leave A Dent Or Scratch...sold Me On It ....im Taking Out My Plastic Liner And Having One Sprayed In And Over The Rail ...gonna Cost About $350.00 Here In Buffalo And My Truck Is A 95 Silverado
