In most states the speed limit is only 65. Why are you going 80?
IMO I would go to an AUTO ZONE , they have a tester that will plug into your car and tell you whats wrong with it and they dont charge you for it, INOW it's free! If you go to a mechanic they'll charge you like 50 bucks for a 5 min test. That might help then again it might not, only way to know is try. Good Luck, I need help too!

This link will help you find out what is acting up and how to pull codes. The guy posted it for a camaro, but it is exactly the same for the grand am that uses ODB-1. Since your check engine light is on, you have a code stored and this will direct you to the problem.
