wheel noise & ABS light

so far there is flats spots in the tires (i think) due to an accident it was in recently, which i have gotten used to. today on my way home from work my ABS light came on and when i turned the corner it sounded like my wheel was attached by one lugnut, i pulled over pulled off the hubcap and the lugnuts were for the mostpart tight but if i kick the top of my wheel it moves at an angle like somethings loose inside, i looked underneath at the control arm and it felt tight so im kind of puzzled..... could it be the wheel bearings???? i had some wheel noise before this almost sounding like the wheel isn't fully seated....also theres a aluminum plate that is loose inbetween the rim and lugnuts, is that normal???maybe my lugnuts get stuck and wont fully seat but tighten??? the lugnuts tighten but the screw is in the lugnut, usually the screw is longer(sticks out further) than the lugnut....is there a main bolt in the center of the rotor behind the wheel???? im going to pull off my wheel tomorrow morning and look deeper into it...any help would be appreciated...

I would focus your efforts on resoving the wheel noise rather than the ABS light. ABS uses wheel sensors to detect rotational speed differences between the wheels to determine if a wheel is slipping or spinning. It assumes the tires are properly inflated and a matched in size set. If the tire isn't mechanically rotating properly, then that would explain the light coming on.

To test for looseness in the wheel, jack it off the ground, place a pry bar under the tire and lift. Check for play or looseness. This would indicate either the ball joint is bad or the wheel bearings. Noise when cornering is usually either worn brake pads or a wheel bearing.

The front wheel bearings are part of a wheel hub unit. To replace the hub/wheel bearing assembly, the axle nut, the brake caliper and rotor need to be removed. The unit is held on with three T55 (Torx) bolts. Removal may require a sliding weight puller.

I would imagine that the aluminum plate shouldn't be left loose. That may be the problem. Heck, I had a problem where I would turn left, and I could hear this nasty noise coming from the passenger side I the front of the car. I thought it was wheel bearing, but it turned out the the power steering pump pulley would rub on the a/c line on the turns becuase the motor would shift.

i jacked up my car and pushed in on the top of the tire and it went foward while the bottom of the tire came towards me, the lugnuts are tight...theyre wierd though because the lugnut dosen't seat past the screw, it's almost flush with it but usually the screw sticks out past the lugnut. it usually happens during cornering but sometimes (rare) driving straight....to remove the axel nut do i need anything special besides a huge socket? when theyre out how do i tell if they're bad or not???

on the power steering pump pulley just look for chaffing on the ac lines???

thanks

Dump question to ask, but does the tire's rim mount flush to the rotor? As in you recently used a spare tire? Some rims have have the same lug pattern, but the center hole for the axle is smaller. These rims won't mount correctly, even when the lugs are fully tightened. As for the axle nut, all GMs use the same size. (I think 32MM??).

That, or 34mm, maybe 36mm or 37mm. Depends on the car.

I am not sure if you're problem is an A/C line, it sounds more like the wheel bearing,

It was the wheel bearings, but in this car I can't change out the wheel bearings so I replaced the whole wheel hub bearing assembly. It rides smooth now...awesome, like new!!!!

I just changed out my fuel filter, trans. filter and fluid, oil and filter, pcv valve, spark plugs and wires, and cleaned out my throttle body.

How about that ABS light?
