Front end pops after sitting for extended period. Usually pops 1st thing in the morning while backing up and turning out of garage.

What has been replaced up front.....
Motor mounts
upper/lower ball joints
idler arm
Tires

The control arm bushings look ok,torsion bar mounts look good.

GM dealer could not figure it out either. (I don't trust them either.)

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated

Thanks
Ray

Hood washers need to be installed.

Hood washers or this. Easy to tell if the crossmember is hitting the frame as there will be marks in the dirt on the frame.

Affected Models:

1998-2003 Chevrolet S-10, Blazer

1998-2001 GMC Envoy, Sonoma, Jimmy (US), and Oldsmobile Bravada

1998-2003 GMC Jimmy (Canada)

Some owners of the listed vehicles may experience a clunk noise that can be felt through the floor pan

This condition may be caused by the torsion bar crossmember contacting the frame rails during left or right turns or on uneven surfaces.

Determine if the clearance between the left frame rail to crossmember and right frame rail to crossmember are equal. If not, install either a washer or alignment shim between the upper mount and frame.

Refer to SI document 539243. This document includes a component diagram of the torsion bar crossmember to frame rail assembly and may provide assistance in the repair.

I would go with the hood washers first.

Loose ball joints will cause a clunk on turns. I had mine replaced and it would still clunk. Next step was to shim the torsion bar crossmember with a washer so the crossmember had even spacing on each side between the frame rails. In my case, I could see where the crossmember was making contact with the frame by the marks left on the rail. My turning clunk ceased after the shim correction.

Greased your front end lately?

There are 11 grease fittings on a 4x4 s-series.

Add two more grease points if you have had your ujoints replaced. Factory ujoints are sealed. Replaced units come with zerks.

Grease points

Top and bottom ball joints (both sides) Total 4

Idler Arm - 1
Pitman Arm - 1
U-Joints (If aftermarket, OEM don't have zerks)
Tie rod arms - 4 (inner and outer both sides)

There is one also on the main steering arm coming from the rack.

All need to be greased.

you only have 1 pitman arm 1 idler arm, that's it. The main steering one is the pitman arm

Its a dealer document. Some dealers will share it with you, some won't. Some dealers get their backs up when you walk into a dealer quoting a specific document....like you know their "secret bible" or something. Not sure where you are, but at Partsource here in Ontario, you can download TSB's from a kiosk in their store.
