Has anyone experienced a problem with rocker arms self-destructing on high mileage 3.1 engines?
See the post at www.horsebarn.com/chevy.html.
I've got 111,000 on my '90 Lumina Eurosport and other than brake problems over the past 10 years I haven't had any concerns. But the info on this horsebarn site is startling. I hope it's just horsesh__!!

Nope, my 91 cutlass went through 189k without any major engine mechanical problems (ICM went out, tranny went out, brakes screwed up, but the engine itself was going quite strong), and on my 99 I haven't had any valves shoot into the cylinders.

The wheels will lock and you will have no steering or brakes. This could cause a fatal accident in freeway driving
Nope, you can still steer and brake with the engine off, frozen, seized, or missing.

Chances are, this lady assumed the rocker arm was her problem, wheras I bet it was the intake gasket. If coolant was sucked into the oiling system, it'll eat away bearings, which could seize the motor. Alternately the coolant could have entered the intake ports, causing hydrolock if enough coolant was admitted.

Whether I'm right or not isn't really that important, but it is what I think. I guess we'll see what happens in a few years, eh?
