Check Enginepryornfld 12-07-2004, 08:33 AM Check Engine Me Again, I had replaced the plugs, plug wires and the fuel filter on my 96GL.The check engine light is still on. Should I disconnect the battery to turn the light off or should it go off by itself? I had heard that if the problem was corrected it should go off after driving for a short distance. Any voices out there!! Thanks DRW1000 12-07-2004, 08:47 AM It should go off by itself once the problem is corrected. It will take longer than a short distance however. It may take a few drive cycles. I would think a week or two of everyday driving. pryornfld 12-07-2004, 10:10 AM It should go off by itself once the problem is corrected. It will take longer than a short distance however. DRW1000 12-07-2004, 12:44 PM If you disconnect the battery you will lose the learned parameters. It will not take long for the vehicle to re-learn them. I say 6 of one vs 1/2 a dozen of the other. I don't know if there is an advantage either way. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
