valve lifters

I have recently did a intake replacement where I had to remove the pushrods from the lifters. I have checked and installed the pushrods in the right order. I am having a problem getting the oil pumped back up into the lifters. My mechanic told me to warm the engine until the oil pumped through the lifters. I have warmed the engine and ran for 10 minutes or so but lifters are still clicking. The lifters are roller type lifters.
Can someone tell me how long should I run the engine so that the lifters fill with oil. I have not taken out the lifters and did not replace them.
Any help with this will be greatly appreciated.

I always put my push rods in an oil bath before installing, so they are full of oil, and drop some oil down the bore for each rod before dropping them in. Seems to help. My '97's lifters make noise every morning, sometimes for several minutes, depending on how cold it is out. I've found that by slowly raising the RPM'S to 2500 and slowly back to idle, it seems to "purge" them, and it is quiet after. Did you give it any gas yet, or just idle it?

You're sure its lifter noise and not the piston slap issue that GM says is normal?

I just idled it for about 20 minutes and still noisy. I have taken out the pushrods and looks like they are slowly starting to fill with oil. I don't want to keep running it a long period of time as a valve job is very expensive. All I did was replace the intake gasket and I had to remove pushrods to do this and now oil is slowly going through the pushrods.
I will try like you said and raise the rpm's to 2500 and slowly back to idle. I hope this will work. I will let you know if it worked.
