Hey fellas, I recently pulled my Transfer case off of my transmission and it didn't have a gasket on there. When I go to put the transfer case on...do I put black RTV on the gasket then bolt it up? Just thought I would check with you guys so I don't make a mistake. Thanks Alot guys, this forum is awesome.

Do you know what you are doing?

Does the job ask for RTV sealant?

Is there supposed to be a gasket?

Ditto

Original poster - If it didn't have a gasket on it, and it was never worked on, there shouldn't be one. There should be a seal on the tranny output shaft and one on the input shaft of the transfer case. A gasket would be redundant. However, a thin film of RTV wouldn't hurt/help. Go for it if you feel like it.

The Chevrolet dealership shows that there is suppose to be a gasket for the transmission to transfer case. There wasn't one on there though. That is why I was asking about the RTV sealant.

Then buy the correct gasket for it then.

I DID.....The question was whether or not to use RTV on it. BlazerLT..you sure do like to give some people hell but you have good advise.

Nono, I didn't give you hell, I just stated if it requires it, then installthe correct gasket for it, not RTV sealant.
