I have a lasabre '89 when i drive it at 35 or over it sputters, the check engine light comes on and it dies.then when i try to start it it won't even turn over. If i let it rest a while like 30 mins or more i can start it again. I was able to transport it home by staying under 25 mph no smoke, no noise , no check engine. Prior to this whenever you tried to give it gas after a stop it would sound like someone holding down the gas while in park and then let go and then do it again when you passed 25mph. Whats wrong with my car. From your posts i have a few ideas. 1. the coils may be bad. 2 transmission in general. Am i warm. Tell me what you think?

Coils, spark plugs or wires, likely the coils. To check them, just remove the wire at the coil with a plastic pliers or rubber gloves. It should spark a violent, even paced fast spark. If you disconnect one, and it causes the motor to die, you have found the one that is working. If you disconnect one, and the idle barely changes, or doesn't at all, then you found one that is bad, even if it sparks.

Thank you for your help it is the coil pack. Sad news was that over a year ago we had spent $900 to repair that and apparently they cheated us. Plus when it was stolen the theives took all the paperwork with the car. bad luck huh. well at least we know whats wrong. Thanks again you've been a big help.
