grease or oil on BOV?Black97GST 12-03-2004, 03:10 PM my BOV gets a thin layer of grease or oil on it a few weeks after i clean it off its back to how it was (with stuff on it) but its preaty thick so i gont think it is oil it looks and feels kinda like grease any one have any ideas?? LouieAWDTSi 12-03-2004, 04:48 PM well i have a 1st gen and when i would take my hose off my BOV...there be oil coming out wen i reved it...i got rid of that shitty turbo and put a rebuilt one back in...i usually kept my hose on there bc i learned u really should on a 1st gen...but anyways..i think it is kind of normal..i mean once every 3 weeks( i believe you said) isnt too bad....just make sure its not spitting grease/oil and what not all over bc thats not too good... i know it didnt help but i kind of had the similar problem and i saw no one responded to you Black97GST 12-03-2004, 04:51 PM ok thanks anyone else have any suggestions? 97_3clipse 12-03-2004, 04:55 PM is the grease outside or inside the BOV , if its inside im guessing that your VC vents oil back into the intake causing the whole intake system to get oil in it. 03Focus_Guy 12-03-2004, 05:04 PM that happened to one of my friends eclipse. he has a 2g and it had a load of oil built up around the house b/c the clamp wasnt on tight enough b/c when the BOV lets pressure off that pressure can blow oil out of the hose. so just cuz it feels like grease doesnt mean it is because when oil builds up and get dirt in it it can have the grease effect. Black97GST 12-03-2004, 05:28 PM yeah but this doesnt smell like oil, look like oil (its greyish) and it is real thick unlike oil and its on the out side of my BOV coolguycooz 12-03-2004, 05:39 PM Uhhh you could try to take off your intercooler and check if that greyish crap is building up in there. Black97GST 12-03-2004, 08:41 PM and what if it is? and what would be causing it? BoostedSpyder 12-04-2004, 05:45 PM ok first of all look at the valve cover vent hose. notice how it goes to the intake pipe? then with a little thought it goes thru the turbo and into the intercooler and *out the BOV*. get a catchcan from GReddy or RRE. or a breather filter. that should cut down on hot valve cover gas [ie oil] from getting into the system. unless you got 120k miles on the turbo i really wouldn't worry too much abbout it. 97 is getting old, but it should still be fiarly good. Black97GST 12-04-2004, 10:54 PM ok thanks to you all! so i shouldnt worry about it? vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
