fipk k&n vs injen intake95-GST 12-03-2004, 12:01 PM I met a guy that works in a performance parts/shop store, he said he only work on dsm (most of the people around my area work only on hondas) so we started talking and he said that he just turbo a rs, I asked him if that was more expensive than selling and rs and buy an gst or gsx, he responded no, that it was acually cheaper. Then I asked what turbo he installed, he said a 14b......anyways, we started talking about different parts and different brands and prices........He said he only works with high quality products.....so when we started talking about intakes, I mentioned the K&N fipk for $129, and he said that he never heard of a fipk.........so we look it up on the web and he checked out.....and well he said that it'll be better off with a injen intake (which cost almost twice as the k&n fipk and it'll replace the same part) because of it's high quality and is dyno proved, while on the other hand the fipk is just another piece of plastic and if I wanted to replace plastic for plastic :headshake no good......... shall I listen to this guy and let him work on my car?......or shall I find somebody else? Igovert500 12-03-2004, 01:15 PM IMO, the guy is an idiot. All intakes are approximately the same in performance...if he hasn't ever heard of K&N then he has no place working in a performance shop. period. Any $30 ebay intake will work just as well as his 'dyno proven injen intake'. The only difference is the quality of the filter...K&N produces the best filters hands down...so if you can get a FIPK for half the price of Injen, then there is no question...get the FIPK. GSTRacerNVUS 12-03-2004, 01:45 PM He hasn't ever heard of FIPK and he only works on dsms... Doesn't sound right to me. :2cents: Here's a couple of different dyno tests for a 1g with FIPK. This one is just FIPK http://www.bagdon.com/mr2/mk-ii/dyno/jpeg-06.jpg This one is FIPK with boost controller http://www.bagdon.com/mr2/mk-ii/dyno/jpeg-03.jpg Ok... I just posted those without looking at them. Do they make sense? They look kinda confusing to me, and I can usually figure them out. 95-GST 12-03-2004, 02:06 PM is it true that a fipk for a 3000GTwill fit a 2nd gen eclipse??? dsmodder 12-03-2004, 02:32 PM that guy is an idiot. hafl the reason why K&n and injen are so expensive is because you are paying for the names. aslo on the top of hte filter they have a little chrome piece which add like 30 bucks and they come with the pieces you need to hold hte filter upright so it doesnt sagg. go on ebay and look for a maf adaptor and buy a k&n filter seperate for like 30 bcuks or off summitracing.com for like 25. then just make a piece that supports it upright because it will sagg. the sagging probably isnt that bad if you just check your clamps all the time but i personally didnt want hte saggin to pull on my bov recircution tube which might cause a leak. Igovert500 12-03-2004, 04:34 PM is it true that a fipk for a 3000GTwill fit a 2nd gen eclipse??? Well every car has it's own FIPK...I'm not sure of the part number of the 2nd gen dsm FIPK...I believe the 3000gt FIPK part number is #57-1500. These usually retail from $145-180, so if this is what you found for $125, then that is a pretty damn good deal...but like I said, I don't know if they utilize the same FIPK. I'd assume they were different. I have heard that the K&N Aircharger part #63-1000 made for 2nd gen DSMs can fit the 3000gt, but that part is discontinued last I heard. So I know I didn't really answer your question, but perhaps some of that will help... DsManiac 12-03-2004, 06:36 PM get the dejon tool one its the biggest one out there from what ive looked into its 3 inch mazdaspeed_MX6 12-03-2004, 10:35 PM well any ebay intake wont work as well as a high quality intake like a aem v2 or injen u have to be a dumbass 2 think a 30 dollar intake that prolly doesent even have dyno specs 2 compare with any other intakes, would be better i thought that that was true but its not my mx6 got just as much horse power with the gay ass ebay intake as it did with the stock one then i invested in a aem it was much better. 1stGenRocks 12-03-2004, 10:42 PM thats a mx6, we have dsms and they work just fine with a ebay intake. they also work with a DIY pvc home depot intakes real_madridcf 12-03-2004, 11:00 PM Intakes are all the same. The ones that are more expensive do the same thing, your just paying for the brand name. oxygen800r 12-03-2004, 11:17 PM the k&n fipk for a dsm is just the filter and adapter. the injen intake is the actual pipe and filter, hence the doubling of the price. my guess is that he was banking on you not knowing the difference between the two and hoping you'd pay the $$ for the more expensive one. GSTRacerNVUS 12-04-2004, 01:01 PM From what I saw the Injen intake is about $100 more than doing FIPK and pipe separately. For N/T $180 for injen. dsmodder 12-06-2004, 12:22 AM mazdas are gay so get the fuck out of here. and your right ANY ebay intake wont work there are som shitty ones out there but there are also some adaptors that are just as good as the ones by the name brands. keep ur eye open on ebay for the 3 inch style adaptor not hte littleone and then just go buy a k&n for 30 bucks that doenst have chrome on it. god dammit mazdas are gay joemathews 12-06-2004, 12:42 AM well any ebay intake wont work as well as a high quality intake like a aem v2 or injen u have to be a dumbass 2 think a 30 dollar intake that prolly doesent even have dyno specs 2 compare with any other intakes, would be better i thought that that was true but its not my mx6 got just as much horse power with the gay ass ebay intake as it did with the stock one then i invested in a aem it was much better. I'd like to see dyno charts for the two intakes you put on your car, pal. Good to know that the brainwashing of brand name performance companies is working ;). Don't assume you can apply your Mazda knowledge to turbo DSMs, by the way--we don't have cold air intakes. Also, you should know that 95GSXracer ran a faster time than you will ever run in your Mazda with an intake made of PVC couplings from Home Depot :loser: 95-GST 12-06-2004, 11:01 AM I thought that the fipk includes the filter, adapter AND an rubber/plastic tube that replaces the snorkel funny looking tube..........??? JoeWagon 12-06-2004, 02:56 PM The FIPK is just a filter, MAS adapter, and cleaning stuff I believe. We are comparing a filter to an intake pipe here, there is no comparison. I would recommend a cheap intake pipe and a K&N filter, does the brand of metal pipe really convince anyone that it's better or "dyno proven?" RiceRocket18 12-06-2004, 04:10 PM speaking of which, where is kevin? did he abandon us? i think it all comes down if you wanna have a clean look under the hood. performance wise, i doubt there's any big difference. but if you're one of those guys who shine every spot and color match everything then FIPK is the choice for you. and if not, i am sure the home depot DIY 'll work just as well, provided if you build it right. mazdaspeed_MX6 12-06-2004, 04:47 PM ok yeah im aware his car is faster than mine im just stating that i beleive that aem v2 is the best way to go for a naturally aspirated engine and my car could be fast if i had a klze JoeWagon 12-06-2004, 05:05 PM and my car could be fast if i had a klze What the hell is a klze? Please don't bring mazda info to someone looking for a turbo DSM intake. I don't know where Kevin is, just busy I assume. TreeFrog 12-06-2004, 05:47 PM i was set on getting the Injen intake kit (pipe and filter) i think it has a cleaner look to it than some ebay pipe and k&n fipk. But you guys are saying the fipk is sooo much better than the injen filter. both are name brands i can't belive the fipk is better by much. so can someone please explain why its better? and if i should really go with it and some other pipe. also is an fipk better than a normal 3" k&n cone filter? if so why? JoeWagon 12-06-2004, 05:59 PM K&N is the most common and therefor most recommended (best) filter to get. You can buy a pipe and filter separate, get a dejon pipe and K&N filter. guitarXgeek 12-06-2004, 06:10 PM On the stock turbo I don't think a hard intake pipe will do much, if anything at all, when it comes to performance. On a larger turbo with a bigger compressor inlet, then of course. The ONLY reason I have an injen intake pipe on my car is because it was on there when I bought the car. Oddly enough, it is for sale right now because I could use the money for other things :)(PM me if interested). joemathews 12-06-2004, 06:33 PM it is for sale right now because I could use the money for other things Like my 14b ;). Someone buy this shit from Matt--it's a nice-looking, chrome intake pipe! guitarXgeek 12-06-2004, 08:20 PM Like my 14b ;). Someone buy this shit from Matt--it's a nice-looking, chrome intake pipe! LOL, I've actually already got the money for the 14b, but holding off until I'm sure I've got enough for christmas present money too :) . I'm selling this intake pipe so I can get a 190lph, and an electric die grinder for porting that 14b  . And in case anyone's curious, the intake (comes with filter and mas adapter) is about $245 brand new, so I'm looking for around $150 OBO! TreeFrog 12-06-2004, 09:37 PM i just don't think you can go wrong with an injen intake or aem for that matter, they have to be decent. at least they're not ebay junk 95-GST 12-10-2004, 09:49 AM hey guys, I installed my fipk two days ago. IT IS FREAKING AWESOME!!! It sounds so great ........ Now for the pipe... would this be enough? http://www.dsmtuners.com/parts/product_info.php?cPath=3_141_53&products_id=758 Any opinion or advice is truly apreciated LandoAWD 12-10-2004, 10:19 AM hey guys, I installed my fipk two days ago. "his shape coincedentally has a the same circumference as a 4” diameter tube, allowing standard aftermarket 4” cone filters to attach directly to the tube in applications where the 2G flow meter is not, used such as in stand alone fuel system like Haltec or AEM. " Overkill and wouldn't work anyway. www.dejontool.com joemathews 12-10-2004, 10:37 AM Get a cheap Ebay intake pipe...bomz makes one I think. Seriously. It will be all you need, up to like 350 hp. It's like getting a Greddy race pipe to bolt in place of the cat--all you need is a straight piece of piping the same diameter, with flanges! Same principle applies. 95-GST 12-10-2004, 03:14 PM Get a cheap Ebay intake pipe...bomz makes one I think. Seriously. It will be all you need, up to like 350 hp. (ofcourse in case is reach :icon16: ) I looked into ebay and found a customized pipe. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=38634&item=7940195659&rd=1 I think this would do it, wouldn't it?..... Thanks......... and "LandoAWD", this time I read the whole description :smokin: vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
