Difficulty starting after playing the radio

After listening to the radio for a while with the key turned back, my jeep acts like it doesn't want to stay running unless I give it gas for a few seconds!

Once the jeep is idling & running on its own everything is fine. I tried disconnecting the negative battery cable when the jeep is on to quickly test the alternator, & the jeep keeps running!

Any ideas on this?

maybe time to buy a new and better battery. I recommend Optima batteries. I run two of them, but that is because I run a huge stereo system in my JGC. The other suggestion is to have the vehicle running while you listen to the radio instead of turning the key back.

Yeah, I am due for a new battery, I've had my '98 for 8 months now & I think the battery is original.

My battery shows good voltage when its cold but it still could be suffering from age. I plan to get a new one but I want every last crank out of the one I have.

I'll probably just buy a new battery & keep it in the back so its ready when my current one dies!

Why don't you try swaping out your battery with an optima yellowtop automotive battery, these are about the best battery you can find for the car audio world. You can buy these at about any car audio retailer or online at the site search. http://www.optimabatteries.com/publish/optima/americas0/en/config/product_info/automotive.html.
Both the red and yellow top batteries are good, but most people use the yellow for audio installs. I'm sure this will end your problem, but if you are pulling alot of juice you might wanna look into installing a battery isolator and go 2 of them, just to be sure.

(My name as well) That's exactly what I have.....sounds like you're describing my system. Definitely Optima Yellow Tops. They are the only batteries that I have found to work with my high current system. What kind of stuff do you have in yours?

Just to update, I did buy an optima & I no longer have any issues at startup!

I can now listen to my radio w/out the any issues afterwards.

SPL is 168. thats with not really pushing anything hard, the new pioneer subs are the best thing out there. Way to go Pioneer!!!!!!
