Well, my dad turned up his lease on his 93, and got the Infiniti G35X.

When my mom turned in the Saab. The guy asked her what my dad got instead of a Saab, and she said an Infiniti, and he said, "The infiniti G35X?" and he guessed it. Aparently Infinitis have better resail then Saabs, Bmws, mercedes, Acuras, all of them because Infinitis are great cars. And it is a great car. Out performs every car in its class. Has the most technology.

just wondering what you Saab Ehtusiasts think aobut it.

I haven't heard much of Infiniti G35X, let alone seen one, except for when I purchased a copy of Car and Driver. This car doesn't seem to exsist in Europe, and for what I'm concerned, fine. What depreciation is concerned, I think the Infiniti would do very bad in Europe compared to the other brands you mentioned. In Norway, Saab 9-5 Estate is actually the car in it's class with the lowest depreciation after three years.

The Saab 9-3 doesn't have any very powerful engines yet, but they are coming soon. Possibly a four-wheel drive version with 260+ hp. The Saab is a safer car, and in my opinion much more beautiful.

Well, thats because Infiniti is Japanese, and msot people think Saabs are ugly.

The European market doesent sell Japanese cars yet. And infiniti is the one with four-wheel drive and 260+ hp. SO i think Saab may have taken the all wheel drive from Infiniti.

What other people "over there" might think about the Saab's looks is beyond me. Tastes are different, but I don't know about many people here that thinks Saabs are ugly. Rather on the contrary.

The four-wheel drive is something Saab has been working on for some time now, and has nothing to do with Nissan/Infiniti. The engine that has been rumoured is capable of more than 260 hp, but it all depends on when the 9-3 gets the green light for a four-wheel drive version. The Epsilon platform which it is built on does only support front wheel drive, and we all know that fwd-cars shouldn't have much more than 250hp due to the stress which is on the front wheels.

Well thats wired, because Nissan/Infiniti are making a biger engine for the AWD next year that will be 280 hp.

I dont know, but the resale in America is far higher on infinitis then on Saabs.

You are wrong about Infinitis are as safe as Saabs. Saab 9-3SS is the first and only car yet to have been awarded "Double Best Pick" by IIHS. Saab have much better active head restraints (which they came up with along with, as well as Volvo).

The Infiniti does well in the frontal (although not as good as the 9-3SS), but has poor rear crash protection (read: http://www.iihs.org/vehicle_ratings/head_restraints/head_infiniti.htm)

The Saab scores top notch in the frontal crash-tests (http://www.iihs.org/vehicle_ratings/ce/html/0306.htm), and gets top notch in the rear crash test as well.(http://www.iihs.org/vehicle_ratings/head_restraints/head_saab.htm)

I agree that the Infiniti has better performance than the 9-3SS, at least as of today. Over here in Europe, people are very sceptic about buying expensive japanese cars as they aren't as luxurious as the Euros. The quality of the interior of the Japanese cars aren't often very good. But however, Saab isn't about being the most luxurious brand there is. If that is what you're looking for, go for a Bentley or Rolls.

But Bentley and Rolls cost well over 2 hundred grand. People dont want to foot that.

Maybe Saabs are safer. But its not like if you get hit in the rear your going to Explode like a pinto.

Saab has dedicated its cars to Safety. Their interiors arent luxurious at all by my standerds. The tires squeel if you hit a corner at 30. So i guess its really safe because they suck at everything else. You hit a corner too fast you will roll off a hill and atleast you will walk out of it. But Performance is also a part of safety.

Thinka bout it. Your coming onto a freeway and theirs Two Semi trucks, your two late to slam on the breaks because their are cars behind you, so what do you do? A. Chicken out and pull to the side of a road and risk having another car hit you, or just gun it and get in front of a truck.

As far as you saying they are beautiful. Its opinion. My mom and sister think Saabs are horribly ugly. The new sedans are ugly as well. I was ok with the way it looked, and my dad was ok, but you think its beautiful. This is anything but beautiful if you ask me. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v174/PowderFacedWomen/saab1.jpg Its just an opinion that i strongly disagree with. But some people think that.

i enjoy having this conversation with you. i have nothing against Saabs. They are great cars. i dunno where they came up with the word Saab, but. Anyways, I'v enjoyed this conversation.

I agree, it's fun discussing :grinyes:

However, I don't know if you've seen the British car-programmes called Top Gear? They tested a Saab 9-5 Aero a year ago, and said that the car was impossible to crash! Furthermore, they claimed that the 9-5 Aero would beat a 911 from 80-120 km/h (because the turbopressure really boosts at those speeds). Because all Saabs have turbo's, they aren't the fastest from 0-100km/h (0-62 mph), but they are very good at taking over other cars when the turbo boost has been building up enough pressure.

Although Saab's engines doesn't have the most hp, they have a lot of torque. A 9-5 2,0 Low Pressure Turbo has only 150hp, but 240Nm of torque. A BMW 525i has 192hp, but 245Nm of torque.

If you're not satisfied with the 210hp 9-3SS Aero, you can buy several chips because Saabs engines can handle alot more horsepower than they are delivered with. Saab's official tuner, the Swiss company Hirsch, provides tuning kits which also includes better brakes and dampers. BSR and Abbott Racing carries tuning kits as well.

The 9-3SS Chassis (Epsilon Platform) has recieved very good critics and the 9-3SS has great handling, being able to compete with BMW 3-series. (Relative to the engine size, of course).

By the way, take a look at the video I mentioned above here http://home2.hit.no/~032083/Top_Gear_-_Saab_9-5_Aero.wmv

I think the old 900/9-3 looks good, but not as good as the new 9-3 SS:

And the 9-5:

I must agree. That 9-5 is beautiful. The styling is excellant. They dont usually look good unless you get the sport tuned one. Other whise they look cheap.

Excellant Video! The 9-5 is an awesome car, but we are discussing the 9-3. Anyways. Do you find videos of infinitis and 9-3s and stuff? tell me if you do. I want to find a vid of an Infiniti going around a racetrack, but awesome vid!

you guys are comparing apples and oranges.
here is the deal; if you buy a saab, you buy it because you want a fuel efficient, quirky, fast car, that is stylish. (notice i didnt say reliable)
you buy an infinity becuase you want a reliable, practical, no frills, "luxury" car.
i am a saab mechanic now and i used to sell infinitys a few years ago. those two customers are completely different. most inifinity cust. are far more practical than a saab customer. infinitys are way more reliable in areas and not as safe, but are finally getting some much-needed styling updates. you name a european car that is reliable. you cant. every japanese car is reliable and for a while was their only selling point (in my opinion). i would much rather drive a saab than an inifinity even though i know it may not be reliable. i wouldnt mind renting an infinity.

I'm actually quite curious at continuing this thread.

I recently purchased a 2002 9-3 Viggen at a great price. While I agree its below the G35 on HP I'm wondering about reliability.

I LOVE the look of the Saab (I've always been into Euro cars over Japanese) and I'm quite satisified with the performance, even if it isn't absolutely best in class, I'm really curious to hear about the reliability.

I bought it with a certified warranty but nearly immediately needed a new transmission, radio, and sensor. Could have been the "quirks" and I hope they are done but I'm wondering about the long haul on these Saabs. Right now I'm a little over 40k miles... and curious to hear other people's experiences on pre-2003 Saabs over 100k miles (since I drive 30k+ miles/year I will get there quickly)...

what do you mean by reliable? .. because... I have a hard time defining what RELIABLE means in terms of cars... but one thing I've always heard about Saabs and Volvos is that they are RELIABLE... whatever that means..

infiniti's are great cars however i feel that saabs are underated amongst some other euros(my sterling) i dont kno wat is so bad about these cars because i dont run into any of these "common" problems with my 9-3 or my 827sli and both of my cars' mileage is well above 100000.
my saabs drivers door got stuck but other than that i have had 0 problems out of my machine and its a 99'
my saab corners magnificently and i am somewhat satisfied with the power.
but when it comes to comparing a saab with a infiniti i find it rather hard to give a credible opinion without bias.i vote saab
