1997 Lumina - low power

Hi, I have a 1997 Lumina LS Sedan with the 3.1. I had to have the engine replaced at 85000 because it seized up. They never did tell me why it seized. I kept the oil changed and tune-ups and everything. Anyway, since the motor was replaced I've noticed that it seems to have a lot less power. In fact, in the summer, when I have the A/C blasting and am getting on the expressway (moderate to hard acceleration) the A/C blower cuts out. It kicks back in once I get up to cruising speed. Any suggestions? Is it supposed to do that and I'm just noticing it now because of the new engine (paranoia)?

Thanks,

I'm gonna stick my neck out here, 'cause I'm not real familiar with the operation of the climate control system on these. But generally, when you have a problem on acceleration with something vacuum operated (i.e. climate plenum door), you are leaking vacuum somewhere, or not developing a strong vacuum to begin with.

Is the blower actually stopping, or is the flow just being interrupted? If this is the case, you will usually hear the blower, but not feel any flow through the vents until the throttle is eased up, then you will hear a slight "thump" as the door moves in the dash, then flow returns.

If this is what's happening, there is a vacuum line leaking or misrouted somewhere. Whoever did the swap should be able to find it, as they know what was disconnected when the motor was swapped.

A vacuum leak could partly explain your poor engine performance as well.

I wish I could be more specific, but it's one of those "need to see it in person" kinda problems. Good luck!
